Yeah, it's natural to expect something.
Square has been remarkably quiet about Thief IP for the last two years, and that isn't something that often happens with large publishers and IPs of this caliber.

We haven't heard anything from SE on Thief because they are in negotiations with Otherside to develop the next game in the series, a direct sequel to Thief Deadly Shadows.
OK, a guy can dream, right?

If given the choice, which would you guys like to see?
* A direct sequel to the legacy games in their own style
* A direct sequel to the legacy games in the reboot style
* A direct sequel to the reboot
* A new IP in a similar vein - like Dishonored but with more Thiefiness
My vote goes to option 3. I really want to see the reboot salvaged.
My idea for a sequel: Garrett is still thieving in the City, the Graven are now an underground cult (neo-Hammerites basically?), and a new Baron has risen to power in the 2-3 yeard since the whole thing with the Primal. A mysterious newcomer to the City is digging up the past and looking into old-Garret (Sneak Thief), Garrett gets involved, and finds out that the stranger is trying to find some relic that old-Garrett stole from his ancestors. Garrett, out of personal pride, takes it upon himself to steal the thing first, because that's who the new Garrett is: someone who's basically addicted to stealing.

1 with Stephen Russell as Garrett

I'm with Azaran, but having played this game before with SQ I know there is zero chance of it happening

You are why we can't have nice things.
The Hammerites, Keepers, Pagans, and OG Garrett are still far more interesting than THiAF's dull, cliched, generic creations.

That depends on who's doing the writing, surely? Thief 2014's narrative was a mess of 3 or 4 different stories trying to happen at once, probably as a result of so many people in key creative roles being swapped out during the development. Would the story have been any better if it had been about Pagans and Hammerites instead of The Graven and the Whoevers? I don't think so. The story of the original trilogy got beautifully wrapped up with TDS, and imo it's best left alone. I do think doing a new story with new characters for Thief 2014 was the right choice, and I'd rather any new games built on that. It set up enough material that someone with a strong creative vision could certainly weave a good tale out of it. Hell, gkkiller's storyidea up there doesn't sound half-bad!

What ZB is saying is that Erin, The Graven, The Baron, Thief Taker General, and Orion - these were all really boring characters/factions, not even close to what we saw in the original games. The writers for Thief 2014 were not good at all, in fact they were awful, their characters have no personality or identity whatsover. No one is saying (well, some are) that any new Thief game has to have Hammerites or Pagans. But to reuse anything from Thief 2014 in a new game will take some serious creativity and/or a major reworking. I think they'd be better off just starting from scratch to be honest, creating a whole new story and characters. Call it another reboot if you must. But does anyone really want to see more of The Graven? Bleh.

Ehh. While I agree that the characters were boring as hell, I don't think the rebootverse is completely hopeless. The old Thief universe was wrapped up nicely and now I think it should just be left alone.

Story arc ≠ Universe
