Was Deus Ex: Human Revolution editable in any way? Moddable, I should say?
No, but then again it didn't use an engine that lent itself well to it. Tons and tons of third party middleware were used in the engine. They likely couldn't separate it all without tearing the entire editing platform to shreds.
New Thief is another matter entirely. With it being built on UDK, there's a chance we could see an editor show up at some point or another. The way that one guy stumbled around the issue during the most recent podcast kinda points towards them at least planning it, though they're nowhere near ready to make a commitment on the issue yet.

I wonder if Russell is very busy with other commitments, he is a more established actor than he was 15 years ago. Anyway, in movies, the ADR and dubbing is usually one of the last things that happens before release, so I guess this doesn't mean that much in and of itself.
Personally, I don't mind too much if Russell doesn't return as Garrett, although I'd prefer if he did. I'm more interested in a good plot, a dark open world with plenty of thieving opportunities, and ideally the ability to mod the heck of out it, preferably with a level editor.
I don't think Deus Ex:HR was moddable, although I could be wrong. It uses a variant of the Crystal Engine, like Tomb Raider. You could probably do a texture-pack modification OK, but I'm not sure how tying-in to Steam makes it suitable to mod.
Edit - to give an extreme example of timing issues, the BBC Sherlock series can only film about 3 episodes per year, due to (a) the time requirements of the writers, and (b) the prior commitments of the 2 leads, who are also in The Hobbit.

And you are entitled to yours, of course.
I'm sure EM will tell us that Russell turned down their
generous offer, or some such. :rolleyes:
My previous post was in response to the "EM don't care" part; not about Russell specifically. To clarify: I disagree that EM "don't care". I know for a fact they do.
My point is that just because we don't always get what we want; doesn't mean they don't care.
But, as I said, I'm sure we'll get an official statement soon. :)

Or maybe he's
busy. You ever think of that?
Well, they did have 4 years to contact him
So much for that :erg:

Slyfoxx is a great guy and an excellent voice actor, but he sounds
nothing at all like SR. You're likely just used to it from all the fan missions.
His Garrett is almost flawless. See (

You know, I thought about this. Really thought about it. Why Stephen Ru
sse
ll wasn't able to reprise his role as Ga
rre
tt...
And that's when it occurred to me.
The reason? It's because he's busy...
...making the Benny The Guard DLC. After recording over 30 hours of Benny dialog, he has to be worn he. He didn't have any time or energy to do Garrett, so they got some other guy in his place.
Between old Garrett and 30 hours of Benny, I know which one I'd pick.

Actually - Elias Toufexis who voiced acted Adam Jensen in DXHR, said to took 4 years to record all the voice acting. ((
http://youtu.be/flszuT3ROdo?t=1m20s) source) Obviously, Human Revolution required quite a lot of voice acting work, due to the dialogue choices... but it doesn't seem like anyone was in any hurry.
Elias managed to record plenty of stuff in that time as well and participate in recording for other games:
Movies and TV show apperances 4 years back:
* Conduct Unbecoming (2011)
* Flashpoint (TV show, episode - 2011)
* Against the Wall (TV show, episode - 2011)
* The Listener (TV show, episode - 2011)
* Smallville (TV show, episode - 2010)
* Amy's End (short, 2010)
* Lost Girl (TV show, episode - 2010)
* Eureka (TV show, 3 episodes - 2010)
* The Partner (short, 2010)
* Sand Serpents (2009)
* Max Steel: Bio Crisis (voice - 2008)
* Ba 'AL (2008)
* The Guard (TV show, episode - 2008)
* South Of Houston St. (2008)
* Flash Gordon (TV show, episode - 2007)
* Max Steel: Dark Rival (voice - 2007)
* Painkiller Jane (2 episodes - 2007)
Games:
* Assassin's Creed: Revelations (2011)
* Shaun White Skateboarding (2010)
* Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands (2010)
* Splinter Cell: Conviction (2010)
* Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood (2010)
* Assassin's Creed II (2009)
* Rainbow Six: Vegas 2 (2008)
* Assassin's Creed (minor character - 2007)
So unless EM didn't try to contact Stephen or he personally rejected it - I don't think TOO TIGHT schedule was an issue. Stephen's imdb page is pretty blank, actually.

DXHR was generally not modable. And I can't think of a game based on that engine that was.
As for Steam - for general purposes like creating maps, textures, models etc. shouldn't be a problem, as long as game is designed to support modding at all. In fact - Steam never really stands in a way of developers, if they decide to support mods - Natural Selection 2 would be a nice a example - you can make some ridiculous things with it. Launched yesterday Steam Workshop for Torchlight 2 would be also a nice example.

Ah, you whippersnappers ! Stop moaning about how the older Thief games were awesomesauce without a flaw ! Why, when I was your age, I played Dark Camelot ! Now that was a game ! In it, you played Mordred, who was black and antiheroish, while all other dudes from the Arthurian mythos were monumental assholes. Swordfighting was awesome, breaking into castles was awesome, killing anachronistic Soviet zombies and rateels that appeared in it for no reason at all was awesome ! :)
And then came Thief. :devil: :mad: What a pale imitation ! :mad: You kids don't know zilch about dem' really good older games, I tell ya'... Shame I never got to learn how to use BactrianEd, I heard Dark Camelot's fans made a lot of fan missions for it with said tool.
What, you've never heard of all this ? Well, I have. I experienced it. Yes, I am dead serious. It's that young Elisabeth lady and her tears or whachamacallthem... I came here from an alternate universe where LGS made Dark Camelot. :sly: I don't get all this drama about "sneaking" and "Gareth", "Victrola" or that... "Caradhras"... or what was he called. Though I liked the weird robots, they were kind of cool... :thumb: :sly:
Um... Now... Why are you guys preparing to throw those large green egg thingies at me ? :eek: What, did I say anything that pissed you off ?!!! :erm: :o :(
*gulps*

A heartfelt "sorry" to all for my shoddy attempts at absurdist comedy. :o :o :o
Here's hoping they hire old Steve, if he'll be willing. ;) :cool:
