I agree with the geniuses who created Thief that Stephen Russell was who should voice Garrett. The voice is exactly right for the character, IMHO.

I meant SRs voice sounded too old on previous games
After seeing Garrett as young man on every cutscene and he's ability to jump across roofs allnight long and even doing that bit of action stuff in T4 trailer, 50 yo sounding males voice just doesn't really fit.
Now it sounds like 20-30 yo males voice which goes very much better on Garrett imo.
Well, I'm 45 and I still feel like I could jump around a few roofs or even slide down a drainpipe or two. I don't think being late 40s would be out of the question for Garrett, that's still young
enough.
That said, everyone has their own vision of Garrett - I always thought of him of being around 35 or so, maybe closer to 40. He's young enough that he can be athletic and quick, but just old enough to be considered a grizzled veteran and extremely cynical.
With the new game though, the point is kind of moot as EM is obviously recreating Garrett to some degree. The new Garrett could very well be in his early 20s.

He never sounded 50 years old to me. :) Late 30's or early 40's maybe. I have friends in their 30's with deeper and older sounding voices than how Stephen performed Garrett in the original games. Stephen's real voice is higher than Garretts, so I really don't think it would take much effort for him to lighten the tone a bit, while still retaining the Garrettness of it, and sound younger. Like I said though, he never sounded that old to me but that's more of a personal association on both our parts.

Still looks pretty grizzled in those screen shots and since his mechanical eye is still there, they acknowledge what came before...so he must be older than he was in the first 3 games. They're being selective about what they do or don't acknowledge.

EM is putting a great deal of importance on Garrett's hands, going so far as to imply they are the best thing about going next-gen. Since 2010, they've emphasized his hands, and they haven't stopped. They actually believe, or are expecting us to swallow, that Garrett's hands are really neat and natural and intuitive and they will be as our own hands.
This. This is it.

no basis for this, at all!

I'm surprised no one is making guesses.
We know it's after Thief 1, because of they eye. So it could be between Thief 1 and 2 or between Thief 2 and 3.
Supposedly it's not a sequel or a prequel so being in parallel with the older games somehow would make sense. Alternately it could be long after T3 and so although it follows it its not a sequel as such. Getting more out there; there is some time-travel event which resets and changes everything after Thief 1.

I don't think any of that applies. This is a reboot, they could just as easily come up with a completely new explanation for Garrett's eye.

The title has hands. The screenshots have hands. This isn't a Thief game. This is a game entirely about hands! We don't want a game about hands! Despite the lies EM has given us about "listening to the fanbase" and "reading through the forums", it's obvious that they've done anything but. If they did, we wouldn't have a game about hands.
DON'T LISTEN TO THE PROPAGANDA! YOU DON'T UNDERSTAND WHAT I'M TRYING TO SAY!
Don't get me wrong. I'd love to have a good Thief game. I'm still holding onto a slim, woefully misguided shard of hope that EM won't sell out our beloved franchise to the money makers and Wall Street and somehow, SOMEHOW, make a game worth playing. Though from the 3 screenshots and small collection of concept art I've seen, plus the three interviews where the guys talk about how much they liked the old Thief and want to bring it into the modern era (gasp), the writing is on the wall. THIS IS NOT THIEF!
THIS IS HANDS: THE GAME!
Also hey Samantha! o/
You've joined up at the worst possible moment. :P

Welcome samantha! Pardon the chaos here, if you will. EM's release of information regarding T4 has put us all in somewhat of a tizzy. ;) However, peace still reigns over in the other Thief forums, and there are many new FMs to be had there as well. But welcome to you just the same.
