The crap is flying all over the place, in all directions. It's best to duck it seems. I hope you didn't take my post to be an attack. I tried finding some smiley to convey the big tongue in cheek involved. I try to stay away from those type of negative spiral discussions, and if anything direct any unpleasantries towards EM ;)
Heh, no worries Myagi, no offense taken.

Tomi, have you even bothered to notice no one, not one person, is saying it will be a bad game?
Oh yeah, my mistake, I can feel the love in the air for the game and the devs.

I have no problem with simple satisfaction with what we've been shown so far. I have problems with people being dissatisfied but acting like they owe EM something, praising what we've seen so far to the point they are making stuff up to support their views and hypocritically bagging on people for the same thing only in opposition, and people who are denying the plain existence of things stated outright to us as consumers in order to fake sincere optimism. The reasons for buying the game have been bizarre and dishonest, and I say again, I have no problem with simple satisfaction with what we've been shown so far. If you have to lie to yourself, don't expect anyone to go along with it and support that.
It's the belittling comments like these that frustrate me. :erg: I don't act or feel like I owe EM anything, in fact I don't give a flying taff about who's making the game. I'm not some stupid sheep who'll do anything that EM wants me to do, and you're not some godly
Guardian of the True Thief Legacy (I like the sound of that title though) who decides what is "True Thief" and what is not. We can all decide that for ourselves.
Yes, I admit that I will most likely (but not 100% certainly) buy the new Thief when it comes out. Does that make me one of those brainless consumers that you seem to dislike so much? But it has got nothing to do with EM. I've been a fan of the Thief series for thirteen years, and they're all some of my favourite games, so of course I want to see what Thief 4 turns out to be like... and you can't really say that unless you've actually played the game. A lot of new features may sound stupid at first when you read about them, but you might also get used to them while playing and even realise that they're actually improving the gameplay experience.
And why would I have to lie to myself anyway? There are a few things in Thief 4 that I'm not very happy about at the moment, and there'll certainly be more of those once we get more information. But then again,
all games have their own flaws. The stupid AI and the robots and the OTT-supernatural missions in TDP and TMA were something that I didn't particularly enjoy, but they didn't stop me from buying or playing them. And did I still love these games despite of these flaws? Yes, yes I did.

I think it's just stupid and that their voicing is different because of dumb favourtism. Which is probably why it's someone else which is probably a canadian.:mad:

I have to believe that Stephen Russell is very flattered
(and proud) to hear the gaming community push back on this. I really feel for WHOEVER does the voice acting role of Garrett - because IMO Stephen did such an amazing job of creating the Garrett character and maybe more importantly - bringing him to life. I'm also really curious if Stephen really wanted the role. Not saying he didn't & not sure we'll ever know that. But true to him being Garrett in real life
(IMO) - doubt we'll ever get it from his own lips. :sly:
Anyway, know most of us ole timers remember with fondness this old TTLG thread - but for those who never saw it - some of us reached out to Stephen after the demise of LGS & he couldn't have been more gracious and thankful for our praise of him as Garrett. While we personally don't know him - he certainly appears to be a pretty nice guy.

Would add this response below from Mike Chrzanowski
(level designer Thief 2) was just priceless and so glad he added it to the thread. And believe Mike's last comment below still rings very true to this day.

Steve Russell kicks ass, I got all excited the day that he came into the studio to record for Thief GOLD. I remember the time we all heard Raoul for the first time, we all fell on the floor laughing because it was so damned perfect. To this day, me and my brother run around the house singing, "My Lady Valarius is so so sad....."
When it came time to write conversations for Thief 2, I knew that I had to write something perfect for Steve. I was a huge fan of his dumb guard voice and after a stressful day, I sat down and listened to all of his voices in the game and wrote the Benny conversation that all you guys love. My only comment to Steve was to act drunk, I knew he would do it perfectly. The first time I heard the conversation, I had tears rolling down my cheeks from laughing so hard. I played it over and over and made everyone in the Thief Pit watch it, we all laughed pretty hard that day.
Anytime we got new SR speech recorded, we all got excited and popped it into our levels ASAP. The first time I really enjoyed playing my levels was when I had put in the Benny conversation and the Garrett voice overs. Thief wouldnt be what it was if it wasnt for Steve's incredible voice talent. He would sneak into the studio, do all the recording for three hours and then sneak out again. Not many of us got to meet him because he was to stealthy. When I saw him standing behind the Mic, he was dressed all in black and looked just like one would expect Garrett to look.
Steve thought it was funny that I wanted him to autograph all of my Thief GOLD copies, but he is a huge talent, and I felt like I got the signiture of a superstar that day. If there is ever a Thief movie, there is no doubt in my mind who should play Garrett.
Steve made Garrett who he is and we all wrote Garrett's words with Steve's voice in our heads.

In the EM YouTube video they did say they had Stephen in do to some recording, and then realized he was not what they were looking for. So yeah, I would say he was interested.

Thanks for reminding folks or introducing them to that TTLG history, Garrettwannabe. :thumb:

I've always wondered with such a strong fanbase here, why Stephen has never come here to chat with us over the years. Surely he knows we're here. Maybe he does, and I just never knew it. Or maybe like Garrett, he prefers keeping to himself staying in the shadows.

Even if he did come over he'd read some of the stuff on here and think "Nah, I'm not getting involved with that."
Most people would do the same.

What the heck is all that cloak-and-dagger nonsense about the original CM apparently being silenced and going all cold and unhappy etc etc? :wot:
