The man's spoken more lines than Stephen Russell as Garrett, hahaha! Someone even started a thread at the Eidos forum for the devs to hire Slyfoxx if they couldn't/wouldn't get Stephen Russell. :p

Yeah just checked, it's Slyfoxx who did the Rocksbourg ones, he's amazing
he made also several samples for my missions .. he is very professional and his voice acting is amazing.
I would suggest him to Eidos Montrel.
Hire him please ! now ! :)

I don't mind that it's not Russell. He seems more than capable for the job, whoever he is. It's more about the script now.
Can we talk about how the trailer just basically hits all the spots that a Thief-game needs? I mean he even directly mentions ghosting :D Sure, it's a cinematic trailer, but if that is their style, then it seems they know what a Thief-game is. Garrett looks better than in any of the concept art pictures as well.
The music is a tad generic, but good. I love the piano echoing Laura's Theme at the end.

Everybody can and should talk about whatever you like and don't like. Likes and dislikes have been mentioned in other threads, so don't assume that not seeing it in this one thread that it hasn't been discussed and aired out already.
The voice is bland, younger sounding, less seasoned, and the accent is different, so why have it as Garrett? Having another character would be perfect in a world without elemental magic and elemental crystals, less or no necromancy, no mages, no Hammerites or Pagan factions that aren't wimpy and hiding, and after the Keeper Order has been wiped out.
Different tools, different persona, different philosophy, different writing, different forces at work, different Thiefy flora and fauna... Make it a new character and no one will complain as much.
The ghosting has been mentioned, so yeah, like I said elsewhere, it looks like ghosters will finally have an official title made with them in mind more than any other.
It's copying the promos, as I've said, more than the Intro movies, where there's an explosion and death, and many of the previous promos and intros, the lockpicking and keyhole shape are there.
The oblivious guard Garrett apparently circumnavigates past (we don't see it) is closer to the TDP/Gold Intro.
TDS introduced the idea of smoking, and here we see someone lighting up, which makes me wonder if the other idea TDS introduced of some AIs having low stamina will also be part of the game.
I like how the trailer is the darkest of any of the art released, but I hope to see some really dark areas of the game, not just sewers. More RGB 0,0,0 values, and less illuminating fog. I wouldn't mind seeing the Abysmal Gale's St. Elmo's fire effects in places, so the illuminating fog appears in places, but not everywhere, as we've seen. Fog's fine, just not the excuse to use it to make things easier to see.
Garrett flying through the glass is a groaner. It's noisy as hell, and we already had how many moments of EM characters flying through glass panes?
If the grapple is accurate to how it's used in-game, it's replaced one improbable tech with another, so I don't understand how it's more credible, and we've yet to see Garrett throwing it upward while standing still, just while launching into space.
EDIT: Google Garrett voice actor and see the gaming sites all coming out and concluding Stephen Russell's been ditched! Hopefully we'll get a name.

I'm.... fairly disappointed with the trailer, to be honest.
At least the seem to get the art style more or less right. But "ninja Garret", no Stephen Russell and music make me somewhat depressed and very afraid - yes, it's only a trailer... but still... doesn't feel right.
I'm getting the feeling, that people Eidos Montreal may have hired wrong people to work on Thief 4... you can certainly feel that there are people who worked on Assassin's Creed involved in this game.

I'm relieved that it wasn't Russell. If they're going to piss all over the series, they should do it without him.

Otherwise, we should see if Eidos Montreal would allow us to do a kickstarter or something for whatever Russell's fee would be, and see if they'd release a Russell voice pack as part of the "classic mode" or whatever I believe they've said is in the game..
Id chuck some money at that.

Since I can't stop thinking about Stephen Russell's voice not being present in official Thief trailer, I'm starting to wonder...
If it would be easier for me to accept the fact, if NuThief (yeah... this may be a good name for it and a good way to distance it from original masterpieces) would be a game with a different protagonist. Anyone also has such thoughts?
Or is Thief a series only about Master Thief Garret?
(sorry for BS... I'm trying to calm myself down... I really do hate voice actor in this trailer)
It seems to me, that part of a reason why I've grown so attached to Stephen Russell being Garret, is that - games back then had minimalistic visuals. So, the tone of the game, the atmosphere etc. were created more often by things other than graphics... hence, it's so hard to me to accept other person voice acting Garret, while it was Russell, that created such a huge chunk of this character in a first place - filling the blanks of simplistic visuals. Him as a Garret or Guards..
I remember reading some questions on Eidos forum, way before NuThief was announced - a lot of people back then were pointing that one of the important things about Thief was Stephen Russell being Garrett. Now, having hit that wall today, it makes me feel, like Eidos just ignored all of this... or they didn't realize how important it was for Thief fans. I have to say - I lost a lot of confidence in Eidos Montreal during last few weeks. And a thing what bugged me right of the start - "Trust us - we're Eidos Montreal! We know, what we are doing!"
No... that is wrong. "They are company - companies are not to be trusted!"
Bad day :grr:

They realised how important it was.

Thief 4: Returning Voice Actors Important11 May 2009 at 15:49:29 by Tim McDonald
Stéphane D'Astous has told us that getting the same voice actors back for Thief 4 is something that Eidos-Montreal are taking "very seriously."
We spoke to D'Astous, the general manager of Eidos-Montreal, shortly after this afternoon's announcement that Thief 4 is in the works.
While he was reluctant to talk about the specifics of plot, setting, and the like, when we asked whether or not Eidos-Montreal was trying to get in touch with the original voice cast for recurring characters, D'Astous responded as follows:
"Something that is extremely clear in the forums and in the comments from the fans is to re-use the voice of Garrett, and this is obviously something that we'll consider very seriously."
This isn't exactly a confirmation that we're going to see Garrett back in the game, but if recurring characters are even a possibility, I'd guess that we'll be stealing stuff from the same time period. Considering the fan adoration for Garrett and the amount of attention D'Astous is paying to what people want, I don't think it's too much of a stretch to assume the master thief will at the very least make an appearance.
