Hypervosa. There are actually 12 posts in that thread. Several were deleted by admin because they discussed Russell.(end Quote)
'Discussed Russell'? Who
IS Garrett in the minds of so many but whom we now cannot even mention over there anymore? 'Nuff said. Case in point, etc., etc.
Otherwise, I was very glad to read thiefinthedark's post. Nice to know we're not the only Taffers protesting. Wish there was somebody at the other end actually listening.
Sleep well tonight, EM.
:p
It was discussing Russell in a thread about elemental arrows.... so I guess that's why they were deleted.
From the looks of it, other people posted in that thread and spammed it with more rants. Nothing to do with the arrows.
Then, ultimately, the thread got deleted.

Great, so other people got my thread closed... :( that's not even cool man.

Overkill, indeed. Hysterical reaction!

That does seem to be the case. I can see the names but I won't say who they are, to respect their privacy.
It was silly though... including abuse aimed toward pagans and plants; I think that was meant for me. :wot:

Hey! I wasn't even over there! I used the quote to illustrate a point. And yeah, sometimes it sucks when someone derails your thread (here at TTLG it's usually not such a tragic thing); but it sucks more that EM admins deleted your thread and then banned you for starting the thread in the first place.

With the modern marketing tactic of paid astroturfing firms, I don't doubt there are a few who have. Unfortunately, Astroturfers and twelve year olds aren't the ones who will sustain an IP like Thief. All they are going to achieve with this title is permanently destroying any value it had left.
You know how they marketed their last game? They had big sit downs at PAX where they fielded questions from the audience. It was pretty cool. Now admittedly, they could've paid shills to sit around and raise their hands to ask can questions, but the second thing they did was pretty interesting...
They sent out a preview of DX:HR for game journalists to test out the first few hours with. It ended up leaking out for everyone to grab. Instead of freaking out and suing people, they ended up treating it like an extended demo, with the only caveat being to keep in mind that it was a beta with a few known bugs in it. Hell, they even let people openly discuss it over at the apparently gulagish Eidos forums. That, moreso than anything, ended up being what sold HR to a lot of people.
This includes me. I wasn't holding out much hope for the game at first. Too many bad memories of Invisible War made me take a far more cynical than I'm being right now (though much better than some of you are being right now) wait and see approach to the game. That lasted until I downloaded the leaked beta. I ended up so impressed by it that I ended up preorder it later on that night. Hell. I barely ever preorder anything anymore.
And this is the reason why I'm being a little more forgiving with New Thief. They've proven they know what makes an old franchise tick with DX:HR, and I assume they'll do about the same thing here. I don't have any proof this'll be case, of course, and there have been some things I've been disappointed with. But I haven't seen anything so far that's made me think they don't "get" Thief, and are ruining it in the process.

It seems he got banned for creating the same thread about 12 times. It was a misunderstanding, it seems.

Distasteful at best. It would be like if the allies had attacked switzerland for being neutral during world war two. I know you're remaining neutral during all this, it's just disheartening to people to see someone they respect and trust tacitly supporting what they see as a tyrant. If I saw Sonic the Hedgehog, my child hood hero, just standing by as Robotnik roboticized half the planet because he didn't want to get involved, my heart would fall to my guts too, but that's my personal response to become sad instead of angry.

I did the same thing, unfortunately HR turned out to be a poorly balanced popamole shooter slightly worse than Invisible War, and I regret having given them my money to this day.
But it was better than 90% of anything that had released for several years, so I understand why people are still viewing it as some sort of indication that Eidos Montreal isn't full of loudmouthed hacks. Hopefully the growing hilarity of TEEFGate finally disabuses them of this misconception.

I liked HR too (though the ending was lame)
and I think Thief 4 will probably be really good in a lot of ways.
And I wouldn't want them to be forced by public pressure to deviate from their own creative vision...
which is why I favor a paid DLC for an alternate voice pack with Russell in it. C'mon Square Enix... c'mon Eidos Montreal... I *know* you like paid DLCs. Cash in on us, c'mon. Seriously. Cash in!
I even invite them to start up their own kickstarter for whatever Russell's fee is, plus cost of recording it and implementing the DLC and then STILL CHARGING FOR THE DLC.
Do what you've gotta do, but do it!
