Thief 4 will be awesome because... - by jay pettitt

I don't know why you care, heh. It will never stop bothering you if you want to change the persons. We have no influence on T4, and cannot change your mind about anything, either, right? I've had this very discussion hundreds of times, and have never seen it go any different, so this post is just...a response. You asked a question, I gave you several optional starting points to gain answers, but only if you really want answers, and aren't just stating your stance in a question. I have ideas, you have ideas. My list will certainly show over ten years of thinking about these things, with a lot of ideas coming from crazy discussions for sequels, fan-missions, fa-fiction, pen&paper RPG materials, movies, music, etc., and it will reflect things I want and never see much in gaming, and really reflect things I've been unable to enjoy since the 80's, and the things they spawned off in the industry that never went away and were put into TDS, obstructing me and others in the fan-base.
I won't be able to play the game unless it allows me to turn some things off. I can't fix what's broken or different about me. It can't be helped if the game won't have the option for customizing, whether in menus or accessible gamefiles. Even long time members don't realize how many taffers here are struggling with things that affect what games they can play.
Thief 4 will be awesome because how can it not be, but is it a game a person who can really get into T1/Gold/T2 can enjoy as well as a T3-only fan?
I don't care about the business end first, that's at the bottom of the list. If everything else is done well enough, then I really do give a damn about the business and hope to send more their way until I learn that the creators are no longer getting funds for more games like it.

First Person - Everything we've seen so far is in first-person, with no mention of third-person except for the part about how transitions between 1st and 3rd were making people sick. All signs point to the game being 100% FP.

Also: they only said they had
too much third-to-first person switching, there's no indication they actually realised switching is bad in itself.

Well, you're right. :) There's no point in discussing it, tastes differ. Just saying that, to me, it truely conserves the Thief atmosphere and gameplay. That's probably why i don't get why it doesn't do to others. That, mixed up with some stubborn opinions i have read on these forums (not yours) probably made me think that it is a general animosity against the "new" which leads to negativity about both TDS and Thief 4. Anyway, as you said, even if it is like it, i will hardly be able to change it, and why would i anyway. :)
I'll stay thrilled about the way this will progress though. I only hope it is not just another turning way for a nice and working series, as recently happened to Splinter Cell and Tomb Raider for example. I'm quite positive about it though, until proven wrong.

I believe you are thinking that you and this community has a bigger competence in judging what is good for the continuation of this series than the publisher of the game has.
Yes. That's exactly right. Isn't that the point of these sorts of discussions? I think most of us grudgingly acknowledge that our opinions may not be very commercial or marketable, and that we're destined to have our hopes dashed on the cruel rocks of reality. But we can dream, can't we? And we can certainly have a good bitch. :p

Sure, sure. After all that's what the internet is there for isn't it. :ebil:

Design and art in the pics looks great, but I doubt we will get that slow paced stealth game play ever again. You''ll probably be defying the physical laws like Corvo did. Deal broke.

Yes one thing I'm sure I'll be happy about is being placed in a very full & beautifully realized world. If it's on par with dx:hr, that's good news, and the screenshots are a good sign. (But I hope the world is more open than dx:hr).
I think the gameplay will be polished. Since it won't be moddable, we won't have much reason to replay it much. Well ... I've replayed dishonored levels to get perfect runs. If the stealth gameplay is as good as that I might do that with T4 too. But I'll still be continuing with T2 & tdm FMs for the type I like the most.

Thief 4 will be awesome because the clocks like the ones we know--at least the one in the Clock Tower. And is it newly rebuilt? Is that scaffolding for finishing it, or just maintenance? If there are more clocks in businesses and homes, and they actually mark the passing of time, then it will be a return to TMA's real clocks, showing us what time Garrett's on the job, adding to the immersion and feel of a larger world than it really is.
