Of course its a personal thing; no need to state the obvious.
Not surprisingly, that one went right over your head.

MOST of the community? Yourself and a few others you mean? Who is out of touch? :cheeky:
No...I'm afraid most in the THIEF community haven't been thrilled with what they've seen so far.

I read many forums discussing the game and the majority seem very positive. Don't you read other forums?
Seems like you're still living in "la la land".

Hey, I am always super happy. Just the way I live my life.
I know, and that's rather scary...There could be a nuclear explosion, with countless lives lost, and somehow you'd still be...:D...super happy.

I'm not sorry it makes you mad. :ebil:
You continue to be completely out of touch...How can I be mad, witnessing something so silly and sad...Please go on with your clumsy, ineffective use of emoticons and imaginary "gotchas"...as I'm sure I'm not the only one who is entertained.

I'll ignore the dumb and immature personal comments. It's too boring... get over it, dust yourself down and move on. :p

Really? Heck I must be reading posts without blinkers on.
Care to name this 'most' of the Thief community?

Considering that most gaming forums -- especially ones dedicated to PC gaming -- are inhabited by entitled white dudes with superiority complexes, is it really any surprise there's a lot of bashing?

4chan is horrible people, you know this, i know this, everybody knows this, example invalid
not much better than the troglodytes who hang out at no mutants allowed, example invalid
probably the least horrible, but still gamefaqs with apartheid, example invalid
where 4channers go when they get banned for posting child porn, example invalid
Actually this is straight up a problem with PC gaming in general -- most of the people into it are elitist jerks who think they're entitled to everything.

Gotta love the shameless promotion. I read many boards and the majority of users on them (/v/, RPGCodex, the original thread on NeoGAF, reddit (I know, I know) to name the biggest) have been stomping this game to the ground repeatedly. The RPGCodex thread on Thief has 39 pages where users bash the game, now tell me this is warm reception. The only place where I've seen good reception is on GI, and even then some users dislike what they see. No, the reaction is definitely hostile.
So basically it's a usual internet response.
I'd honestly be suspicious if no one was wailing and gnashing their teeth like it was the end of the world.

Except these 'elitists' can see if a game is good and will say so, unlike a couple of very weird people on this very board. Dismissing entire communities, some being more or less cesspools, just because you don't agree with their views is a bit childish, in my opinion. I can understand people who are enthusiastic about Thief, heck, I think the visuals are great. Of course these 'elitists' are going to react with hostility when a game like Thief which is part of the pinnacle of PC gaming gets a new installment with many things making the game easier (like it or not, Focus makes the game easier), or changing things that worked perfectly for the sake of changing them because it's a new game in the series and they must change... stuff and shit.
And these people are also present here, on the official Eidos forums and even on the official Facebook. Even if they are not entitled to anything, they're still fans, and dismissing them as a developer is shooting yourself.

Not at all. If they are clearly nutters then what is the problem? Good examples would be white supremacist communities. Everything they type is nonsense.
Similarly people who are frothy fans of some game so much so that entire groups are completely blind to something obvious or all jump to the same type of silly conclusions based on small pieces of information that suggest no such conclusions.

The weeping and wailing and gnashing of teeth is universal and normal. So is attacking that with a bludgeon and lots of barking.

It isn't so much that their opinions don't matter. They do. It's just how they present themselves that's such a huge problem.
It's never...
"You know, I think this change is a stupid idea. It makes the game too consoley in my opinion, and doesn't feel like something you'd normally see in a Thief game".
Oh no. They turn that knob all the way up to 23.
"What the hell? Are you all a bunch of stupid f*** trained monkeys over there? OH F***, MAN! WAY TO GO! YOU OBVIOUSLY DON'T GET IT, AND YOU'VE RUINED THIEF FOREVER WITH YOUR STUPID DUMB STUPIDITY! I WILL SLIT YOUR THROAT IN YOUR SLEEP AND WATCH YOU DIE YOU SACK OF F****** SHIT, AND EAT THE HEARTS OF YOUR CHILDREN AS A DELICIOUS DESERT"!
Well, usually it doesn't go that far. I'm mostly basing this on my experiences with the Fallout community as an example of the extreme. But still, it makes you wonder why some people make games at all, let alone sequels to a beloved series. 99 times out of 100, a lot of feelings get hurt, and a whole bunch of lives get threatened.
