You can do takedowns from above in T1/2/3, although I'm assuming that option is for some sort of DXHR-like thing?

Considering that in the original Thief games, you could do either manual saves or quicksaves any time you wanted, I'm not sure what's supposed to be "old school" about restricting save game options.

In a somewhat related note: (Ok, it's not related but I didn't want to start a new thread for my rant)
I just saw amazon selling a bundle pack of the original 3 Thief games, and Square Enix's name is featured quite prominently twice on the front of the box and in the marketing, and Eidos/Looking Glass is nowhere to be found.
Why is Thief 4 called "Thief"? Why was the Tomb Raider remake called "Tomb Raider" ? I just find it a bit disturbing that all these remakes that are happening in so many forms of entertainment seem to be obsessed with erasing the memory of what came before. We've got RoboCop remake, Total Recall remake, Godzilla remake. Have we reached such a *&#$@"g point of creative bankruptcy as a culture that the best we can do is churn out remakes while hoping to wipe out the memory of what came before? :tsktsk:

Remakes aren't some new thing. They've been doing them for decades with film. There's been 4 separate film adaptations of the book
The Body Snatchers, for example.
No one is trying to "wipe out the memory of what came before" in most cases. They are usually doing it because whatever existed in the past has faded into cultural obscurity, and they think it's worth bringing out again and reworking for modern audiences.
Is this done for money/greed related reasons? I'm sure money can be a factor, but just because something is a remake doesn't make it inherently awful. Did you know 1982's
The Thing was a remake of a film adaptation of a novella? Did you know 1983's
Scarface was a remake?

Well I never knew that. I guess I 'm a lot more suspicious than you about these recent remakes because judging by the quality so far, it's like they're just using the name of the originals just to appease the stockholders/producers that they aren't taking any creative risk ("it's a safe bet dont worry!").

All I'm saying is to judge a creative work on its own merits rather than against whatever preconceived notions you have about what it should be. It's a lot easier to enjoy things that way. I can't tell you if the new Thief is going to be good or bad, but I can say that I'm willing to give it the benefit of the doubt. The fact that you can customize so many elements of the gameplay/interface is definitely indicative that they genuinely want the game to be a good experience, not just some kind of cash grab, I think.

Have you ever stopped to think that the hostility you and yours tend to end up being on the receiving end of isn't so much about what you're saying, but rather how you're saying it?
Im sorry but once hostility enters an internet discussion, all intelligence (and appeal for me) exits. Becoming hostile even in the slightest, which is inconceivable to me, speaks more about your character than the ones defending themselves from you. NuThief is so close now, it just doesnt even matter what happens here in these final days!!!

THEY WILL STILL BE THERE. The new Robocop remake? Almost completely ignored by everyone, and (
vimeo.com/86014703) anyway some fans decided that if anyone should ruin something it should be the people who love it. (Apocalyptically
NSFW btw). They announced a Videodrome remake a few years back -- it never got made and thank Darkseid for that, but if it did get made, the old Videodrome wouldn't suddenly
stop existing.
This entire argument is based on elitism and entitlement. How
dare they make something new! How
dare they try to create new fans! Those fans might get it
wrong! If you honestly subscribe to the idea that a new Thief game is somehow ruining the old games, or that fans of the new game are somehow infringing upon you or your enjoyment, you need to take a step back and have a think about just how seriously you're taking this shit.

I wish someone would have the cahoneys to just make an awesome stripped down 1st person sneaker, without all the frills. I guess for me, when the NuThief was first announced, a LONG time ago now, my first hope was that it would be that glorious return to stripped down simplicity, that even Deadly Shadow managed to achieve to a degree. Obviously, it will be a far cry from that. All that is left is to actually sit down with the game and fill in the awful blanks.
