Listen, everything I am saying falls under the umbrella of contextual movement. Everyone already knows this. If you cant be bothered to read up on it, because it was recent-ish and quite impactful
No it isn't, and you don't know what contextual controls actually are. You're basing your entire argument on what you think they are, then telling people they're wrong when they say otherwise.
I'll break it down for you. What are contextual controls? Quite simply, they're controls that change based on where you are in their environment. Like space bar might be mantle if you're next to a wall, but could also be used to open up containers when you're around them. Or Q and E might be your lean keys when you're standing near cover, but can be used for a quick dash left and right when standing out in opens pace. In short, they change based on the
context of your surroundings and your position in them, hence
contextual controls.
They're not necessarily more limiting than any other standard form of control, though much like anything, it all depends on how they're implemented. The big worry with Thief isn't the contextual controls themselves, rather it's that the context they're used in might be too specific. Like you can ONLY climb up on specifically marked walls. ONLY lean at specifically marked locations.
It's this latter thing that's currently a big ass question mark. It could be just as freeform as old Thief, albeit a little different than what you're used to, or too limited and scripted. None of us know what's what yet, least of all you. And we won't until the game comes out.
So quit throwing out fancy words like physics, contextual controls, simulation, classic CRPGs, and what the hell ever like you know what you're talking about. You don't. All you have are half assed assumptions, and nothing more.

We shall see, and sooner rather than later. Soon there will be no more of this cowardly hiding...
Renzatic on 14/2/2014 at 05:08
What cowardly hiding?
Goldmoon Dawn on 14/2/2014 at 05:12
EMs cowardly hiding of their masterful product, of course...

Yeah, after months of getting craptons of videos, boatloads of screenshots and concept art, a number of 4 hour hands-on preview writeups by the gaming press, and about 30 kajillion articles, it's all but obvious they're trying to keep everything on the down low as much as possible.
THE CURS! HOW DDUUUUUURRRR THUUHHHH!

I knew you were going to say all of that, but it matters little. Soon this abomination will be available and the speculation and all of the hate and anger it has inspired can finally come to a long awaited END.

I'll play it with all the superficial crap turned off. However, I think this presents some problems for the game as it is. Deus Ex 3 had some issues too with conveyance, you could turn off all the filters and prompts and crap, but, certain parts of the design did conflict with it. Lots of new games do it where they just litter environments with static props and objects which have no purpose other than to clutter environments so there's more on screen. In older games, this really wasn't an issue. Junk objects were usually few, far between and out of the way, while important objects usually looked distinct, stuck out just enough but not so much that they'd be obnoxious. The gold items in Thief taking precedence over just the generic frobbable props, they usually had a metallic feel, or sheen to the texture work that made them stand out, from golden brown wine bottles to colorful gem filled necklaces, stacks of coin and cups and plates.
Deus Ex 3, not so much. Environments sorta pegged you to hammer the use key through them and vacuum up any and all items hidden without their urine coated outline. Thief 3, objects that didn't glint or look like they had been dipped in olive oil had a bit of a problem with conveyance too. It remains to be seen, but I'm doubtful they'll pull it off when so many others haven't in these past few years.

It's always good knowing that when you don't have any more room to maneuver, you always fall back on the same tired rhetoric you've been sprouting out practically since day one.
"....yeah, well, WHATEVER DOOD! STILL BLASPHEMY 'N STUFF"!

I think it's cute, Renzatic. Hey Goldmoon, if you're feeling flustered how about you let out some of that anger with me? I'm always down to cuddle.
Goldmoon Dawn on 14/2/2014 at 05:35
I wasnt talking about me. I havent been remotely angry about anything. I have merely observed it, and watched one friend and others leave here because of it!
