B1skit, is EM's third corporate liaison...So you can take whatever is said with the appropriate perspective.

My thoughts exactly, Vae.
So EM's trying to 'limit' the automatic 3rd person perspective to 'Certain vertical navigation scenarios and focus mode take downs'.
Oh.

Rest assured that in the specific situations that you'll see a 3rd person camera, it's been used because it was needed to ensure the best gameplay experience in that situation.
With all due respect to Adam, this is an absolutely ridiculous statement. It is never
needed! There is no
need for a 3rd person camera to 'increase' visibility (assuming he's talking about sight lines here). Basically, it comes down to the developers wanting to control what the player sees in a specific situation. They feel that the player would be better served with a 3rd person view while climbing a rope, rather than having an intimate view of the wall. It's nonsense. I don't want to see what my character looks like climbing the wall. I would have no problem with it being a default features, so long as I can disable it in the menus and play 100% in first person, just like most of us have been asking them to do all along.
I'm pretty sure the majority of conversations on the Eidos forums found common ground where proponents of 1st and 3rd person agreed that a menu option to allow either view would have been more than acceptable.
People said the same thing with Deus Ex. Why won't they listen to us?

Probably because it worked pretty well in Deus Ex. I know quite a few people screamed about it being the dumbed down end of the world because the 3P camera was in there, but it didn't detract from my experience at all. After awhile, I barely even noticed the transition.
That said, DX isn't Thief. I've already gone over the reasons why I think 3P wouldn't work nearly as well in T4 as it does in HR, though. My opinions still stand.

A recent interview for Xbox magazine mentions a "Focus arrow" - not sure if that means an actual arrow in Garrett's arsenal, or just a helper GTA type arrow to show the player what to do (hello, atomic footprints).

Link to it man, for cripes sake!
Ask nicely next time:

Third paragraph down after the 1st question.

SE, not sure if B1skit's latest post offers more insight into 3P elements and take downs?
This entire 3rd person situation continues to baffle me. They seem intent upon explaining how little 3rd person is used, yet it makes the tradeoff of voice actors for Garrett that much harder to understand.

Why? You already know that's not the actual reason for not bringing back SR.

Whether it works well or not is of little concern to me personally, I don't care if the feature is there, what I take issue with is the insistance that a hybrid system is suddenly a requirement and you are given no option in the menu to disable it. Utter nonsense.

I'd rather not have the camera switch to 3rd person when I'm in the middle of trying to navigate a wall. I'd rather keep my eyes (eye?) on the task at hand. Otherwise ... well ... that's how accidents happen, ya know.
