Thief (4) Features. What we know is in, what we know is out. - by SubJeff

Please stop with this negative rubbish.
Do you actually think that developers go through the same idiotic though process you just did?
Again: Source?

Sorry did you miss the 'subject to confirmation' clause and the use of 'probably' meaning it was speculation ?
What do you think these sorts of things, assuming they exist, would be most useful for ?

It is from the most popular french video game website, their journalists are really serious people and they even assisted to the game's presentation at Montreal back in April.

The paragraph in question is the following one:
Quote:
Which can be traslated as:
Quote:
Indeed, to help players to anticipate the danger, (either they are beginners or not), the studio has implemented an quite effective alert system: if anybody out of sight approaches ,the screen will progressively get darker and an indicator will appear above the detected targets if they suspect or sense your presence. If you still get spotted despite all these clues, it is probable that you've asked for it (you casual moron!)
Generally I'm fine with target indicators on third-person stealth games but I feel it will ruin part of the overall experience because you'll be able to locate and follow/avoid (depending if you intend to take down or sneak around) guards , even if they are behind a wall
On the other hand, It's weird that the "cloak" isn't a light level indicator as logically we assumed all of us, but still I don't feel it is annoying at all, I admit that I even like it a bit

I think we probably would have heard about this from more outlets if it were true. It's certainly not completely implausible that EM would implement something like this... but on balance I doubt it's true.

It comes down to this, this is the make or break...
Attaching an indicator over the heads of guards to let you know how they are feeling is OK *if* the game was designed for the person who doesnt use the indicators. If the game was designed for the purist sneaker, meaning that the guards give their trademark barks to let you know their level of alertness, and they attach the dummy lights as an afterthought for the noobs, FINE.
But, if the game is designed specifically with the dummy lights in mind, and turning them off in the options doesnt leave you with natural audio and visual cues as to the state of the guard, then, break.
But then again, jtr7, myself, and others have been repeating this same ideal for a very long time now, so yeah...

How can you still stand that it's not true, the devs explained it to the reviewers in a demo session ! And it's normal that "We" haven't heard it, it's not like it was a prominent detail for their targeted audience

Okay Thief 4 has had a lot of flaws but I'm 90% sure I could hear the guards shouting and giving barks in the playthroughs.
Skyrim does this, so it would be pretty absurd to not include them.

Well, it didn't happen at E3. Is it plausible that they've added it in since then? Sure. But I think it's more likely that the journalists misunderstood. It's a little hard to judge when I can't read the original source for myself.

Of course there are barks.
We saw this in the demo footage.
You'll all be worrying that there is no colour next. Or floors.

I (objectively) translated the source for you guys, it's not like I changed anything
