Thief (4) Features. What we know is in, what we know is out. - by SubJeff

I wish my whole post was a joke. But the quote is from the official Thief website.
Technically, since the plot/gameplay seems to knock off Dishonored a little bit, that makes THREE things EM has lifted from Bethesda.
And dated memes don't count as good writing. I liked the Thief games for their writing. This doesn't strike me as a good sign.

What has Thief taken from Dishonored?

I noticed in the demo that when Garrett blocks with the blackjack (which is weird enough), the guard did the same backwards stumble that guards did in Dishonored.
Also, when the plot was first revealed, it was verbatim the plot summary of Dishonored. They've changed it...slightly, but things still look very similar between the two. Not to mention, in the first reveal videos, they spent a lot of time talking about Dishonored's successes...

Was Dishonored the first game where parrying causes the enemy to stumble? I don't think so.
And the plot is very different - Dishonored is about a wrongly accused man, in Thief you're anything but wrongly accused!

I concede to your points, while the two look similar, there are more than enough differences. That wasn't my main argument though, I'm not going to try and defend that statement.
The main point of my first post was "They used an Arrow-to-the-knee joke in 2013." It was uncalled for me to bring up the dated "It looks like Dishonored" argument again.
I'm also still nervous about the writing. This, and "The tools that are me" are two examples that just have me nervous, that's all.

Sigh...
Trailer transcript:
Stealing is my way of life, it sets me free in the night. Every rivet and stitch lets my find what I most desire. The cloth that hides me, the tools that arm me, all lead to that priceless moment. You may think you've caught me but think again because when I want something I will always get, I am Garrett, did you miss me?

Just wanted to point something. The "cloak" as you call it isn't a fullscreen darkness indicator: according to an overview of the game, the screen will gradually darken if somebody out of your sight approaches you
When an enemy notices or suspects your presences, an indicator will appear above his head

But why?

Again, why does the player need this?
For me it is part of the fun to hear somebody out of my sight approaching me (or to miss hearing it and be suprised by the whoever). And it is part of the fun to hear or see by the reactions of the person, that he notices or suspects my presences, isn't it? Why does the player need extra visual markers? That is... kind of... odd.

Well (subject to a confirmation source) probably because the target demographic seems to be a player sitting on a sofa several feet away with half an eye on the game looking for an interesting bit to show off on but otherwise not really engaging, who can't hear things like approaching footsteps because they're busy chatting to their mates about the night out they had last week and the amazing things the person next to them is doing with Mario on their PSP, probably while eating a pizza.
They are aids for people who aren't paying attention or are playing in a communal, noisy and distracting environment, i.e. for casual gamers.
