I'm more inclined to believe that people like that have delusions of grandeur more than that they may have a secret affiliation with EM. He may genuinely like the game that he sees (its his right, after all) and just wants to make himself something of a big-shooter over there. Or maybe he wants to make some connections with EM to advance his professional life. Who knows his motivations. It looks odd, for sure, but he could just have very different ideas about Thief than we do. I'll still fight him verbal tooth and verbal nail over his opinions though.

The situation with Master Taffer is indeed a tough one. His opinion is his own, but it is troublesome that he is always pointed to by EM as their own 'hard-core' Thief fan. I think its a bit desperate on EM's part to do so. That they feel the need to say that about him, while marginalizing us, is telling about how they view their product. That said, Master Taffer is an old name, and I respect the guy. Of all the pro EM people, I would like to sit down to a beer with him and discuss Thief in all its forms. See why he thinks as he does.
I didnt want to say anything until I had a reply, one way or the other, but I wrote B1skit a letter asking about the possibilities of a couple of TTLGers having a look at their game. I had exchanged a few small messages in the past, so I thought he would at least tell me his thoughts on the matter, even if it was "not a chance". I think, and wrote, that it would give them a chance to win us over, while giving us a chance to voice our collective opinions through nominated candidates. He never wrote back. As I said, I think at this point, they are done making changes. I dont remember the name of the article, (its only a day or two old), but there is a quote from Roy who says something along the lines of them just wanting to get the game out. They neither need, nor want, more time. So, whether its crap or not, they are taking their chances. They are not interested in making core fans happy, and so it all comes down to marketing now. This explains their insistence on making Master Taffer their hardcore fan. It also explains the quotes that make us seem ridiculous for wanting the things that we do.

It takes a lot to be banned here (if you're not selling shoes) and there have been very few instances lately. If contrarian is who I think then he was silenced for both making purely inflammatory posts and having multiple accounts.

Guys, we go on the Eidos forums (well you do I cancelled membership) and expect to be taken seriously because of our depth of knowledge.
You get legitemately upset if you're dismissed as a rabid TTLGer and your otherwise valid points are pooh poohed.
Well it doesn't help break down the rabid TTLGer image if you come back here and start attacking the people who dismissed you, they read these forums too.
Attack their arguments by all means but they aren't going to listen to you if you insult them.
Every time someone over there gets personally insulted that's another argument lost, another heart and mind that requires a hundred times the effort to convince.
So if you feel you have to get personal, leave the personal comments for PM's.
Who knows you might not have to work so hard to convince people you're right.
