(
http://www.ttlg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=141375&p=2201323&viewfull=1#post2201323) Now you begin to understand where some of us have been coming from, brother...and now this same righteous fury begins to kindle within thy heart.
Time was, all these halls would be close packed with Novices, striving to learn our teachings. Youths in this time, seek to learn about gold and politics, not honest craft.
Time was, the sinners we'd take wouldst have no second chances. They were dispatched forthwith to explain their misdeeds to their Builder. Our strength and resolve, 'tis not what it once was. And see what our weakness hath gained us. Crime and sin, reached to the very heights of The City.
Because so many now build without consideration for the Master Builder, his mark is no longer upon the life of The City, and the taint of The Trickster will always seek entrance.
Know for though the hand of The Builder doth still shape man and the world through our actions, there are legion who do not believe, and wouldst tear down thy works.

Oh shut up. You're embarrassing all of TTLG. What if some EM members come over? The first thing they see shouldn't be your ranting nonsense.
You didn't know any of this when you first started your whining.

I have on occasion deliberately made noise to pull AI out of position by using my BJ or even the sword on something noisy like a metal or wooden surface, can anyone confirm if that still works or not in T4 ?
I regard that as a weakness in the original games, bordering on an exploit. IIRC, wasn't it fixed in thief 3? I hope you can't do it in thief 4.

Um... those are the classic Hammer chants straight from Dark Project, you know, a huge reason the series is so beloved?
[insert uneducated gamers joke]

Jump on ground, lean forward, blackjack AI as they approach. You can take out whole missions that way with basically 0 skill, just five minutes practicing the manouver. Alert guards shouldn't be blackjackable IMO.

So it's blackjacking alert AI that you have issue with, not making noise by jumping?

So these features in Thief are really not surprising if you want to achieve this "smoothness" - give player less room for mistakes/getting stuck and they will be in for the ride...predetermined one (or three:bored:). Do you guys think this is the way Thief is heading? I am so convinced of this, because of the videos and PR talk. They think this is what makes games immersive.
I agree. This is obviously the case regardless if free jumping is disabled or not. The way that the press of a button makes Garret climb up on a wall in an instant is a small but telling sign.
Most of the contextual buttons and smooth transitions work well in Deus Ex : HR because they are tied in with the augmentation system. And either you hid or you killed everyone in the room. But it won't work in a Thief game where running from guards, desperately grabbing a ladder but not climbing fast enough to avoid the swords and arrows was part of the thrilling, heart-pounding gameplay. That's immersion, instead of "press button to escape".

Btw. I am so satisfied with how TDM is looking out right now with latest FM Old Habits Rebuild (has to be downloaded seperately) and its AI - they notice opened doors, comment everything, talk to each other - makes game so much more immersive and ghosting satisfying. Next-gen Thief right there:cool:
Thirteen years ago, I dreamed of the wonders that future hardware would bring. Little did I know that the future for many genres was the removal of important features and the adding of unnecessary ones (like achievements).
So you are right on point with the next-gen remark. Game developers have failed to make truly next-gen games when it comes to story, gameplay and immersion.

Have you been drinking man?!?!
Here, Ill put the two posts together for you, since you obviously cant be bothered to read what anyone other than you posts.
Esme described a tactic in Thief that could be considered an exploit. The exploit is to be in the shadows, make a noise that draws the AI to you, then bonk 'em from the shadows with the blackjack for knockout. She wondered if it would be present in Thief 4.
[lurk more]

Where did Esme say anything about using the blackjack on them?
She said

made noise to pull AI out of position
and
nothing about knocking them out. I did the same as an alternative to using a noise arrow. I also used broadheads to make noise sometimes - is that an exploit too?
So it's YOU can't be bothered to read.
