in fact, you could shoot ten rope arrows right in a row into one long wooden beam if you wanted to, then swing from one rope to the next.
Could you swing on ropes in T1/2??? I thought that feature was introduced by TDM. :)

The PC Gamer Thief cover story reveals that jumping is now a context-sensitive command prompt. "Jumping, bouncing up and down, kind of broke the immersion," says Schmidt. "We didn't want you to be the master thief and you just tend to fall off stuff all the time."

*sigh*
So is that the only option for jumping now? There is no dedicated jump command at all? If I'm in a spot and could conceivably jump to two different locations, how do I do that? I'd like to see the original article.
I think I'm pretty flexible with regards to movement controls. I wasn't overly worried about the fall down button, which at least still lets you move in the way that you want to. When you go past what I'm prepared to deal with, you're starting to get pretty bad.
Hey, I can do the next one! "Press 'x' to move out of shadow while a guard is looking"

Restrictive jumping? Really? Are they wrapping Garrett in bubble wrap too?

Wow...You guys just realized this?...Contextual Jumping is one of the key reasons why NuThief betrays the THIEF Experience...For with this trio of free-action-killers that are NuLean, NuRope, and NuJump...a THIEF game, this can not possibly be.

Vae, we've heard about this before, but we haven't heard how it works in detail. There are still a lot of details missing, but it sounds like we'll be finding out more in the course of this discussion.

I didn't think they would take away jumping completely. If movement is that restrictive, water to swim in is almost certainly a no go. I knew about not being able to fall off rafters and whatnot but damn, I didn't think they would take away jumping all together. I mean, why not just put the player in a cart and have them follow a predefined circuit, giving the illusion of freedom, like an amusement park ride, OH WAIT, that's the recipe for just about every AAA game.

Oh yes we have, you just weren't paying attention...(
http://forums.eidosgames.com/showpost.php?p=1930559&postcount=1) Thief Hands-on Demo @ E3: Jerion's Impressions
"There are things that irked me. Jumping and climbing appear restricted to predetermined locations. It is set up fairly comprehensively; if you think you ought to be able to jump or climb somewhere you'll be able to do so. I hope this will change and jumping will become free-form, unrestrained by pre-determined leaping points." ~ JerionQuote Posted by Shinrazero

If they implement swimming, NuSwim will probably auto-paddle the player from A to B...;)

All part of the amusement ride, right? Please keep your hands inside the vehicle at all times, oh, zombie hands...right. Gah.

Vae, I've read that. It doesn't explain how it works at all, and also leaves the door open to it changing in the future. Now the devs are stating that this is the way things are meant to be. I'm hoping they go into more detail about how it works in this article.
Can I jump onto a mantleable wall? Can I choose where to jump to when there are multiple possibilities. Can I press a button to force a jump even if the system doesn't want me to, similar to the drop button? Etc.
