Thief (4) Features. What we know is in, what we know is out. - by SubJeff

Where it says "Iron-Fisted Baron now rules the city" it sounds like the Baron is a new concept when he was frequently mentioned as an absent character in Thief 1 and 2 (might not have been so absent in T1 since people were discussing things like women he was interested in or that he was lazy and corrupt).
Then again, no idea if it's the same Baron, but it probably is meant to be.

If I caught that right, the Baron in Thief 4 is from the Northcrest family and they're pretty much a dynasty. There was only one mention of a named Baron in the original games and it was Baron Bresling. Seeing as Thief 4 is a "reinvention" of the franchise, it's pretty fair to assume that these two are not related at all.

Has anyone heard/seen anything about a compass. I have to have a compass.
Chade on 18/6/2013 at 13:12
I believe the eidos players mentioned a compass on the map. I'll go back and check and add it into my summary if that's true.

Thanks Chade! Apologies for relying on you and others for information.
Chade on 18/6/2013 at 13:37
Yeah, they did mention a compass attached to a map. The reason I didn't originally include it was that they weren't confident of their answer.
I didn't mind doing the summary. Forums are horrible places for Q&As.

Especially when you can barely see the replies for the avatars, signatures, multi-coloured fluorescent writing etc.
Thanks again.

•Lockpicks - yes, and a lock-picking mini-game.'
Does this mean that every time you have to pick a lock it's going to turn into a mini-game? Hope not; I'll have to agree with TMC on this one. Do we know any hard facts about this particular feature yet? (I just don't have the time right now to go back and re-read every single article about T4.)
TDS' lockpicking system was tedious and frustrating at best, as well as (imo) very immersion-breaking. And as much as I loved Skyrim, the lockpicking system used in that game was just as much of an immersion buster (to the point that I just started using the 'unlock' command code to save time). I'm trying very hard to be positive about some of the 'known' aspects of T4 - really, truly. But turning lockpicking into a mini-game every single time you pick a lock ... I mean, really? That's gonna get really boring really fast for me. If this is something that's already a given, then all I can do is hope that EM might think to include an 'auto lock pick' feature that you could use once you reached a certain level of experience. That would at least be a tad more tolerable.
They should also include an "auto-infiltrate-the-level" feature, too. I don't want to waste my time sneaking by guards and waiting for holes in security.
For taff'n sake people, we are master thieves! Lets act like it!

That's a significant component to Thief, planning, observing, finding those holes in security. Are you serious?

He's (perhaps unfairly) making fun of Dia's 'auto lock-pick' suggestion.
I hope.
Operativex: it helps people read your posts if you quote only the specific piece of text you are responding to. Use your own judgment, of course, but it was annoying to have to read Dia's entire post a second time around just to spot the bit (in the middle of a big paragraph) with similar wording to your post. (This is especially important when you're using sarcasm, which is famously hard to spot on the internet.)
