Thief (4) Features. What we know is in, what we know is out. - by SubJeff

Do we know anything about how sound will affect gameplay? I recall a comment from someone who had seen a demo that involved Garrett jumping down from some height and landing behind a guard without being heard. The person gave the impression that guards can't hear Garrett. I assumed that the person must be missing something.

We know the AI isn't complete so until we're told that it is I'm not going to speculate on what it can hear or how you can be silent.

I can just see the developers looking at that beautiful picture and misguidedly laughing while thinking to themselves, "hahahahaaaa, nah... were gonna do it much better than that." All the while never realizing that they need to simply strip it all away. Thief is a 1st person sneaker with minimal user interface.
Also, from demas (

Gameplay Mechanics - Focus lights up the screen and highlights pipes you can climb + candles you can put out to make the room darker
So much for level design featuring free form exploration.

You must see that this is just negative conjecture.
I'm not using that "source" because it links to another source which then just links to Gameinformers main page. So it's not substantiated.

Again, this is just negativity for the sake of it. Even if this were true you don't have to use it. Besides, Thief was a PC game and you sit closer to the screen and can discern more detail about the environment. On a console, in the living room (and during the day!) some people might need this.
Goldmoon, can I ask you to please curb your negativity for the sake of the thread? This is supposed to be informative and not another place to express baseless opinion/conjecture.

Oh yeah, I forgot.
Thief IV will be a console game. Im still trying to grasp that the series is no longer a PC franchise. Negative? Its a matter of interpretation I think.

Forlorn is how I feel when I express a comment like that, and i suppose that could be interpreted as negative. Either way, I dont see it being any more controversial to the thread at hand, than the picture posted directly above it. :p I felt that demas link compiled much of what is known already and thought I would share something that struck me. If by informational, you mean that it must only be positive in nature to be acceptable for the thread, I wasnt aware of that and extend full apologies to you and anyone else affected.

You don't always have to be positive about everything, it's just that assuming focus practically makes the game a linear on rails guided experience is the absolute worst interpretation of it based on very little evidence.
"Focus lets you see all the candles you can put out in a room"
"Great. So that means Thief 4 is a hallway shooter like Doom but without the branching corridors and everything has auto aim, and you press a single button to watch the game play itself through half hour cutscenes. They've killed Thief".

All those words you just said, that I myself did not say, have nothing to do with the *free form exploration* I was merely hoping for in a new Thief title. Loss of hope leads to forlorn. Who *are* you quoting/talking about anyway, when you launch into those cool uber things you do sometimes!

Please, ffs, just take it to PMs.

I'm not that worried about Focus directing gameplay too much, since it's designed to be used sparingly.
The report I didn't like to hear so much was reviewers talking about getting railroaded into the parkour sequence into the brothel. But then the originals had some railroading going on too... OMs like Assassins & the first half of Life of the Party. It's not bad per se, but I hope it's just parts of missions and not the whole thing.
