Oh lord...
:nono:
Just saw the in game menu at 0.27 and it bears a striking resemblance to the ones they use in Assassin's Creed...
I can't go on watching this. It's too painful.

You have no idea what's happening, no idea what I'm doing or why. The fact you are letting SE guide your judgment show how in the dark you are. You would be horribly embarrassed if you knew.
Your posts are consistently some of the most annoying and eye roll worthy on the forum. Stones and glass houses and all. Or pot-kettle-black. Either way. Bottom line being that this is a videogame and we're adults. Stop getting so worked up about stupid things.

I was... I was not ready for this.
I know I've been the single most negative person here who hasn't liked a single thing that was shown to us and has criticised and/or mocked every decision that EM has made, but this surpasses even my worst expectations.
I usually don't like repeating myself, but once again... (

BEACH RAIL!
SneakyJ', how 'bout some o' that open-mindedness regarding your fellow taffers. Prove it means something more than a phrase to throw at your mortal Internet enemies.

Don't have any internet enemies, fella. It's just a videogame. :D

I kinda wanted to hear Garrett's comments.
Since he's apparently chattering away at everything in the game (and judging by the writing of the trailers) I'm expecting some pretty good lines to come from it.
::attaches to chimney pipe::
"This chimney is cold and gritty. Like my soul."
::leaps to adjacent roof::
"Gotta remember to stop by the shop-"
::Falls 30 feet down onto guard and punches him repeatedly::
"-need to pick up some milk. And eyeliner."
Seriously though.
The environment looks great- very Thiefy. I'm pretty optimistic about that.
I'm seeing these guard's animations- are these all mo-cap as well? Because I'm not noticing a huge immersion benefit thus far. In fact, I think the faces look pretty silly. I don't know if they're properly animated yet or not, so only time will tell. Video isn't the greatest quality, so it's hard to tell.
As other have said, I'm not a big fan of "the cloak." I imagine it'll look better on my monitor close up. Looks like it's not opaque, but translucent. Still- from here it gives me a really claustrophobic feeling. Like you're playing with Garrett's eye zoomed in all the way.
I also hated the "SUSPICIOUS" label. I'm half expecting a scrolling text field that says something like
"Slightly wary. Will likely take a look around if you're too loud, but probably won't bother if you make a little noise."
Definitely not, but it's dumb. The guard's actions/sounds should show whether or not they're suspicious. If their mo-cap animations are as great and convincing as EM says, there should be no need. I'm not saying they have to be like T1-2-3 and say something loud and obvious like "WAS SOMEONE OVER THAR?!" In fact, it might be kinda cool to be more subtle- like a guard just staring at something odd quietly and seeming to consider it thoughtfully. But with that label thing, they might as well just be loud about it like the old games.
I kinda thought the pick-pocket bit was neat. Targeting specific loots and then having Garrett try for it in that "boom-boom" way was kind of cool. Time will tell for sure on that one.
My biggest problem was the third person take down cinematic. I really hope that isn't something that happens every time you take down a guard.
Overall, though it was really pretty (barring AI), I thought this demonstration was pretty dull. Maybe it would have been more engaging if we could hear the sounds and get a full screen view the whole time.
I'm disappointed, but open to this. They will surely spend a lot of time polishing it up.

How is it not polished way beyond this by now?

Some of us have very high standards for video games and Thief was one of the few titles that met our criteria. There is a feeling of betrayal that one of the few games we hold dear has been taken away from us and dumbed down for the masses. We are obsessed with Thief and not video games in general. Can we be faulted for that? If the gaming industry is ever by some miracle going to get better they need strong vociferous feedback and financial backlash from the community they claim to support. I am going to do my part and not buy this game because at this point that is all I can do. They've ignored the feedback from the fans. No one asked for tweaked Dishonored gameplay to try to fit into the Thief universe.

Cuz "Mission Failed" in the original Thief games is so much more classy for the discerning individual. It speaks to me as a connoisseur of fine things, a free thinker, something separate from the masses, a round peg in the square hole that is this world of sheeple.
No, I'm not nitpicking things just to nitpick. QUIT BEING HYSTERICAL!
