Yeah, I asked that. Apparently not.

Shocking.

I know, right? Like, I actually could live with someone else doing a Garrett impression. But hiding in a shadow listening to Dan Thron complain about his boots is one of my fondest memories of Thief.

Some other game should revive that Stephen Russell & Dan Thron interplay if Eidos isn't interested in them. That was gaming gold.

However, the specific case aside, do you disagree with the overall point that player freedom is more important?
Of course not ... I don't think that was ever up for debate.
That said, I would say that the restrictions come first. Freedom is only meaningful as a way to overcome the restrictions placed on us. We could let the player walk through walls, fly through air, and then who would care about rope arrows?

It'd be nice if pickpocketing actually involved some skill in Thief 4 (and not just one mouse click when you're close enough to your target), but I don't think I'd like to see a complicated pickpocketing mini-game or anything, so I don't know how exactly it would work...
Well, pickpocketing in thief 4 sounds pretty cool to me, actually. Apparently you have to hold the mouse button down for a small length of time to pick pocket. So if the guard is moving, you need to be able to follow them for a short period. If you need to move into the light to pick a pocket, you'll have to be more careful. And of course we were just discussing how you need to be more careful about the angle you pickpocket from.

That does sound good, but I could do without the hand swipe motions accompanying it.

Yes, I actually like the "delay" element, minus the loading circle indicator. It's my favorite bit of info so far. It adds to gameplay AND it's more realistic.

Absolutely -- not knowing how long the pickpocketing will take would add a lot to the tension.
Springheel on 2/7/2013 at 00:26
Actually, I think an indicator is reasonable; a thief would probably have some idea of how long it would take to get the item off the belt. I just don't like the fact that it looks like a loading icon from a video player. Kills immersion. Having the object jiggle like the handle of a door, or doing something with the froblight, would be better.

Yeah that's totally my beef with it. I hope that loading animation is a placeholder.
