There were real swear-words in the old games! Bloody, damn, etc. Inference seems to be that the swearing in the new one is more along these lines that it is Joe Pesci in Goodfellas.
I was thinking Deadwood. Even calling someone a hooplehead would fit into a Thief game. :D

Yes, but words like bloody and damn aren't really on par with words like f*** and motherf* and the like. I'm not really sure you can call them swear-words. You probably won't use them in polite company, but nobody blinks if you slip them into everyday conversation.

Do we know for sure that there'll be that sort of swearing then? I probably wouldn't mind the occasional F-bomb too much, but I do admit that it might sound a little out of place in the Thief universe. Depends on the overall mood of the game, though.

Well, F-bombs are in for sure.

F bombs are totally unnecessary in this game imho. Taffer is a much better catch all without the real life effect and with the added atmospheric flavour.
SneakyJack on 17/6/2013 at 19:35
Not saying it doesn't add to the Thief atmosphere nor that it shouldn't 'matter' in the Thief universe but when folks are acting as if a single word missing from the game is a deal breaker that causes them to swear off buying it at all - just seems a bit silly in the grand scheme of things.
Then again each change good or bad these days is met with people running in circles with hands in the air screaming bloody murder so I suppose I shouldn't be surprised by any of it at this point.
Renault on 17/6/2013 at 20:30
I didn't see anyone, let alone multiple people, saying it was a deal breaker. It's just one more thing for the list of "Cons." I'm not sure there's any one thing that's a deal breaker for me personally. But when you see mention of QTEs and 3rd person takedowns and XP and headshots and dozens of other things, it does start to add up fast and doesn't bode well for the final product.
I think the critics of the critics are overreacting to the feedback here. There are a small handful of irrational people around, but for the most part people are just discussing and critiquing any new info that is released. That's what this forum is for.

I hope this has not been posted yet:

A look at the gameplay demo that is a little negative but thinks there is still enough room for improvement and signs of possible greatness.
While they pulled off making DX:HR a game standing out of the crowd (while not being especially great as I hoped) I am still pessimistic.
I especially like how the author was able to make a fight incredibly easy and dull. So one thing they did not change from the old games.

:ebil:
While Dishonored payed hommage to LG's classics (to the stupidity of the AI as well unfortunately) and employed the horrible damsel-in-distress trope I thought it had still more personality and wit than DX:HR.
Let's hope they can really craft something special with this one. At the moment it does not look that way.

Yeah I was just about to post that RPS article too. That there are set-piece-heavy interludes like the burning building in a few places I don't mind, but the flimsy AI and the easy exploits when fighting them are dismaying. :(

I really wish people would stop perpetuating this nonsense. Not a single member of the DX:HR team is involved with Thief, at all. You'd be better off comparing the design of the original Assassins Creed or Kane & Lynch, since that is where the lead dev team is from.
