Heard many mentions of the Quick Time Event driven escape from the burning building sequence from the demo, but it's nowhere to be actually seen on a gameplay vid. I can only hope this means they're not 100% sold on implementing QTE into Thief.
God, I hope they don't. No one likes QTE. No one. It's been derided by gamers and press alike since it's modern introduction during the last generation of consoles, and no one's grown to like it in all that time since. Why developers keep wanting to put them into their games is well beyond me.

-Saw lockpicking that doesn't cut to the "inside the tumbler" view. There is still an overlay on the screen though, but it's minimal. It appears the switch to the inner view of the tumbler only occurs when you activate Focus, although I'm not 100% on that.
I remember a dev saying that the inside view is focus powered.

With all the HUD options turned off, I wonder how lockpicking in 1st-person plays out. We'll have to wait for the modder messiahs to clean up the dregs and quiet the damned noise.

Or maybe we won't need any modding, maybe it can all be turned off. Perhaps that's what Oldskool mode is.
But you'll never play it anyway so...

Turning off the gimmicks will not save the corrupt, ill-conceived core, that is NuThief.

:laff:...I must say, your incessant, repetitive trolling, amuses me to no end.

There will be modders. Sales to the masses will be high enough. We have to wait and see if they are good at it, and if they will unlock the gamefiles' secrets, regardless of what they are looking to mod in the game. There have been occasions where some good Samaritan has taken on a challenge where they otherwise have no personal interest in the product as it was intended, just to take it apart and see what makes it tick, and then offer the findings up for others to exploit. It could turn out to be another T3Ed level of disappointment where great plans to fix things were dashed hard against the rocks. It helps it's based on Unreal 3, so they probably won't be up against what DX:HR's modders were where it took some time to even know what they were looking at.
My playing the game has nothing to do with what I'm saying on these boards, SE, but you know that, or you have brain cancer.

This makes no sense.
If you added the same "gimmicks" to Thief 1 and 2, with the option to turn them off, would that then make them corrupt and ill-conceived?

It says all about your attitude towards the game though. You never wanted a new Thief, so
everything about the new game automatically sucks in your opinion, even if it's good.
Fair enough, but I still wonder what exactly you're doing in here. You know, I used to love GTA 1 and GTA 2 back in the day, but I've never found the modern GTA games that interesting. (Not that I've even played GTA 4, to be honest. I think I should give it a try some time.) GTA in 3D?! Blasphemy!! :p Still, I acknowledge that the nuGTAs (moar like noobGTA lol!!!!!!!!!1 :laff:) are good games too, just not exactly my thing. And I certainly don't spend most of my free time on the GTA forums shitting on the new games and claiming how everything was better in GTA 1 in 1997, because that'd be just awkward and stupid.

Back on topic, EM also took out the hotkeys for weapons and inventory--obviously not a PC mindset, there--so what's the Nixxes fix for that, or is there no such thing anymore? Does the gameworld pause when that huge HUD wheel comes up in the friggin' center of the screen? Can we no longer be on the move arming ourselves on the fly, drinking two different potions one after the other to perform a maneuver that creates yet another pathway the devs might actually not've thought of? Can we jog across a rooftop, arm the blackjack, jump off and KO an AI on patrol without stopping, and keep running as the guy falls to the ground behind and we put the blackjack away and heal ourselves within milliseconds? Is there a button to drop Garet's hands off the screen?

Selection wheels are actually awesome. Single key, mouseswipe, boom. Takes less than a second and you don't need to crab your hands all over the keyboard. And I doubt they removed hotkeys, simply because I've never played a game with a selection wheel that didn't also have hotkeys. AH THE THINGS ONE CAN LEARN IF ONE PLAYS ANY NEWISH GAMES AT ALL.
