This has probably been posted already (didn't see it while doing a quick look through the threads, and I barely pay attention or have much of a memory as it is), but here is a rather flattering review: (

Is it just me, or is it weird how all the versions of this playthrough seem to be 95% identical, with just the occasional, slight difference?
So my hunch that the playthru was heavily scripted seems like it's the case....

Given the rumors we have heard about the turmoil this game has been in over the last few years, I expected nothing less. Especially when the gdc footage that was supposed to have been shown...wasn't. From what little we could see in these videos, I would say this game isn,'t all that far along at all. They've got their work cut out for them. I imagine they had to burn the midnight oil to pull together what they did for E3.

Yeah, but between TDP and TDS, the story of the Pagans and Hammerites (and Mechanists) has been told. Aren't we ready to move on to something else. Like something deep in the original mythology like the Baron?
I promise you, friend, this new team hasnt the slightest clue of what the original mythology of even the baron is about. The original two(2) Thief games were all of the amazing things that people have said in this thread, I wont quote them all, yet it rarely is mentioned that the roots of many aspects of the development of Thief lie in the classic crpgs most notably Ultima, Might and Magic, and Wizardry. Which isnt the least bit surprising since LGS "grew up" in their prominent midst. The new team hasnt shown any understanding of the classic game design, let alone appreciation of any kind for the original two(2) games..... that were absolute classics in the history of crpg!

It's possible that the bow is being held like that because of Garrett's position--high up in a perch with a rail in the way. See the wooden rail there?
... which would be a cool and realistic feature, if the way the bow is held is predicated by your surrounding environment.
It doesn't really change the fact that drawing a bow like that is nigh impossible. I'd suggest you see if you can get to a shop that sells hunting bows, then see if you can draw a bow that way and still put enough force behind the arrow to make it fly further than 2 feet.

So to replenish focus, you have to collect...opium.
DAMN THAT'S COOL!
(And it explains Garrett's "heroin chic" look. A lot of thought really
did go into this!)
So essentially they're ripping off Velvet Assassin then? Yes, indeed a lot of thought did go into this. :erm:

From that IGN preview;
Quote:
Much like the gameplay itself, everything about Thief feels meticulously designed. This is clearly a development team that is looking at the smallest details,
which is probably why the game has been in development for over four years. But so far, Thief is an incredibly unique experience in a sea of first-person shooters (even the well-designed ones). If Eidos Montreal can keep its focus, Thief seems like one experience that shouldn't be missed.
Can IGN be any more transparent in their shilling? Did they completely miss the articles that said this game has changed development teams and gone through three complete separate builds during the four years it's been in development? The original build pitched to SE doesn't even load when trying to start it in the UE.

It's IGN, an exemplary specimen of venal press.

"the last thing I played was Thief 4 which is not good... Comparative to other recent stealth games, including one's that Square-Enix has put out, I hope it's just really early. It was really rough, to the point we're I played 10 minutes or so and had to stop. Brad the demo we saw at GDC, zero way to replicate that way of playing that game in the version they were showing. It's an E3 demo. Things can change. That games coming out next Spring. It was really rough. It was really disappointing."
Ouch.
If (it's a big if) that turns out to be a common response to T4 and if (this one's just a no-no) I'd been bank rolling the project for 4 years, at this point I'd be wondering: what would be the best way to cut my losses.

Moneymongers serving moneymongers serving moneymongers.... Cowards doing what they don't even have to, painted into a predetermined corner by choice. Innovators are beaten into submission or become the next moneymonger.
