AW GUYS! That was a GREAT zing. This place is overmodded. Are we really not allowed 'your mum' jokes in here? Really?

Nothing.
Tell me more. How much is the budget? What makes it bloated? How exactly is it affecting the development of the game? What proportion is going on what? How is that affecting the different aspects of it?
Oh, come
on.
You're familiar with a basic concept like inference.
Thief 4 has been in development nearly five years.
Unless they're running a volunteer organization over there, that budget has to be nearing belugal proportions. They've been employing between 60-70 people on that one team since at least 2009 (prior to that, it was a smaller, pre-production team, we're told). Factoring in all the different builds we were told about (at least three separate, completely distinct 'versions' of Thief 4, with one feeling more like Assassin's Creed, with a third-person action slant). Even assuming those people are making McDonald's salaries (which they aren't), after doing the math, that's
still a lot of money.

This version is still present in the form of "escape" sequence of the demo.
Some more news:
From Machinima presentation:
It seems that some kind of
moss arrows is back?
Garrett will also spend XP points on upgrading his weapons.
From another Polish (
http://www.gry-online.pl/S022.asp?ID=9003) preview:
One of our fears is confirmed: you can only use rope arrow in specific,
marked places.
The final sequence of the demo is about Garrett escaping from the mansion through the burning bridge: lots of
scripted sequences (collapsing bridge
a la Call of Duty); very similar to Assassin's Creed (jumping in 3rd person); this part of the demo does not resemble old Thief games.

Although it's not that polished game in comparison to other AAA titles (I still love it though). And it was not a failure. Nor was latest TR and a bunch of other games from SE or EA that were deemed a failure to meet company's expectations. But that's corporate greed, mostly. Still what does have to do with Thief case or any case in that matter?
From what I recall, Tomb Raider also underwent massive, costly changes during its development. The original build was nothing at all like what we ended up receiving. The game was originally going to be a pure survival horror title and not the third-person manshooter we ended up receiving.
It's this inability to stick to a budget that doesn't allow developers to throw money all over the place that's killing niche games in the AAA industry.
How much money do you think EM has wasted on the development of Thief if they've changed the entire thing 3 times already, and are wasting money on really inane things like making leather suits to study how the light falls on them. If they didn't waste money like that, don't you think they could have developed this game for a much, much smaller budget?
How much more do you think they're paying for the new voice actor simply because ACROBATICS?

Have they? If the average salary is £60k I make that £18 million in salaries alone for the past few years. You sure those figure are right?

Timing is everything, I'm told.
My mum's as mad as a bucket of spoons - you can tell a joke about her if you like.

Some other (
http://forums.eidosgames.com/showthread.php?p=1926284#post1926284) hands-on impressions (from Eidos forums)
Quote:
Last night I chatted for an hour about the game on Skype with a Thief fan who saw 30 minutes of gameplay, so I can relay some useful information:
- levels seem much more contrived than we're used to with Thief.
- the fire/explosion escape was awful. Completely linear, Uncharted-style with QTEs to boot.
- stealth was very fast. The player can walk very quickly right next to guards, and as long as they were in the dark, the guards would not notice them.
- there are long, protracted third person climbing sequences that also appear to have been lifted straight from Uncharted.
- he was wearing headphones, but he couldn't comment on sound propagation. It's too loud at E3 to tell.
Overall he wasn't impressed, but he did say it was very visually appealing.

I'm pretty sure that Thief 4's budget isn't in the public domain, so speculation seems fair - just as long as we all know we're speculating to some degree or the other.

The thing i hate most above it all is the fact that EM doesn't consider
Thief as an original unique game. They prefer to copy other games than do a real
Thief game.
This is total illogic and is an incredible shame.

Indeed. Without the figures the best we can do is speculate, but I think it's relatively safe to assume that Thief has a pretty big budget if it has so far gone through three totally different iterations that all went past the prototype phase and they have money to spend on things such as making leather suits so they can see how the light reflects off it.
