Edit: Scratch that. I'm sure they put them in
just to piss people off. Wait, but I thought it was there to make you feel like you're up close and touching stuff in small spaces?
All I'm saying is, if the hands have an actual purpose, fine. But if they're there just there for aesthetics, then I think it's a questionable design decision.

There are too many silly things in that video, so I'd like to see one of the game being played in 'old school' mode.

Hitler thought breathing oxygen was a good idea.
He had second thoughts about that in 1945.

I seriously just watched that with my hands cupped over my mouth in shock and horror. The atmosphere is Thief, but the gameplay is not Thief. I'm not even sure what to think at this point. I guess I should be thankful they brought back water arrows, but this game terrifies me that it will be more like Metal Gear than Thief. I don't want that...what good is the style of Thief without the substance? :nono:

You really fail at sarcasm I've noticed.
Spring, isn't it a matter of utilitarianism and equipment minimalism?

All "5" of us want to see what the game looks like with all the "optional" stuff turned off or down. Can we see it, EM, not just take your good word for anything?

Well, I've watched the E3 gameplay and I wasn't very impressed with what I saw at all. The 'cloak' effect and guard awareness levels being shown to you on screen is far too intrusive and the third-person takedowns and XP system just feels out of place. Finally seeing this infamous Focus mode in action has revealed many of my fears for this reboot to be true, making the game feel more like Dishonoured than an actual Thief game. Overall, I find it quite heartbreaking to see Thief's gameplay and world devolve into this. Now I'm actually glad they didn't bring Stephen Russell back, as I don't think even him voicing Garrett again would save this game for me. *sighs*
Oh well, guess I'll be sticking to the original games and the many fan missions in order to get my proper thieving fix from now on.

I think it's rather stupid to have a character engaging trained swordsmen either completely unarmed (as in the first takedown), or with an eight inch club (in the second fight).
Thief will hardly be the only setting where an unarmed man has a fighting chance. I don't think it's so unrealistic that you can't suspend disbelief.
Mostly I just see it as a way of encouraging the player to be stealthy, I'm not so concerned about the realism of it.

This is actually exactly what I was expecting them to do. With all the bad press they've received prior to E3, one would think the logical step to at least appease the fans is to throw them a bone and show a video of Thief as they remember it.

Perhaps, but it changes the character of Garrett quite a bit. Garrett is in many ways defined by his range of equipment. Are we to accept that he's now a martial artist, someone who can go up against armed and armoured guards and come out on top even without a weapon?

Yes, but Thief is supposed to be unlike other settings. You're not supposed to be playing a kick-ass martial artist in Thief. Even with a sword you're supposed to be at a disadvantage.

So now games with the player character dropping down and taking out an AI is the norm? It never made sense in TV or the movies all these decades! Gotta love how EM is Ubisoft2.
