So you need to be registered on TTLG since 2000, played through a thousand FMs and made some to be able to write down your opinion on Thief 4 now? Good to know!

Well, I don't see it mentioned yet (or maybe I missed it) but the objectives from the second gameplay demonstration require ghosting (but how strict that is I have no idea). I don't know either how difficult it will be to ghost, but I myself from all the supreme ghosting I do already (because I'm insane) have an extremely high bar on hard (more like tedious trial and error at times) and hope that it will at least be a challenge to do for the average player on normal difficulty.
Anyway, I took screenshots (I have no idea if ttlg forums support imgur albums, but I'll find out! Edit: Seems like no...)

Optional: Steal the Captains Purse
(Pictured)
Lift ALL the loot.
No kills or knock outs
Remain Undetected
Very, VERY good objectives if you ask me! It certainly looks like it requires you to perfect ghost to complete the mission.

Yes I can. It doesn't make sense to get passionate about something that isn't actually happening.
No, you can't. People aren't robots. You can't just ask them to turn their feelings off.
Also, as I said, a lot of the stuff was never meant to be taken seriously. More often than not, people were just taking the piss out of EM. Like, for example, that fake screenshot with "Press X to take down 3 guards", although it ended up closer to the truth than anyone thought :(.

Depends on how you play the game. With all the UI bling on, it looks like those screenshots. Turn it off, and it looks a lot closer to the original Thief games.

No - but if you're going to dismiss outright the opinion of someone who's been on the boards for more than a decade and was an integral part of the T2X team, and if you're going to say they don't have a clue what made
Thief the game it is, you're going to end up with egg on your face, and quite deservedly so.

Of course it looks like Dishonored and other "modern" games - because it's trying to be a modern game? What, you want them to come out and say, "This game will really appeal to fans who enjoy games from the mid-90's!" That's ridiculous. It looks like Dishonored and Assassin's Creed because both of those were informed heavily by Thief to begin with. The devs can't help that other stealth games have been made since T2. It seems that EM is being held unduly responsible for many things that are simply part of the business they are in - which is to sell games. Hopefully they can do so in an artful and creative way, like LGS did, but it's not 2002 anymore. I love the comments that "they should just change the name." Will you play if it they change the name? If that's the only thing that makes or breaks it...I don't even know how to talk to you about the whole thing. Wow.
There's choosing elements that fit well into your game and there's choosing elements because everybody else is doing it. I suspect New Thief looks a lot like other games not because it works well for this particular game, but because they think people are expecting it. In other words, they are streamlining the game for the modern audiences to maximize the market penetration so that the publisher can all the better service the customer... George Carlin style.
It's as if they are trying to nail down the perfect game, but the problem is that there is no perfect game, (
http://www.escapistmagazine.com/videos/view/jimquisition/7161-Perfect-Pasta-Sauce) there are only perfect games.

All the development budgets are insanely bloated and money is squandered like it's nobody's business. Let's take a look at the Thief devs. They actually spent development money to make a Thief costume just so they could study how the light falls on it.
I agree this is a big problem in the industry at large.
And frankly, for all the talk of next gen graphics and motion capture so sophisticated that they couldn't use SR, I wasn't really blown away by the visuals. Is that just me? Outside of the cut-scenes, the texture size looked pretty average, especially on the AI faces, and the particle effects on the arrows were nothing to write home about either.

That video was incredibly interesting, I'm glad you linked it.

Ehhh...really Ren? I would say turn them off and it looks a lot closer to TDS. The map we saw has the exact same aesthetic as TDS--blue everywhere, bright white lights, little to no steampunk. Then there's the atomic blue froblight, the blue motion trails (at least for thrown objects, didn't notice arrows), the loot glint (how can you blame them for bringing that back when it recieved such high praise before?)
Even the good parts of this game seem FAR more influenced by TDS than the originals.
