Knock it off. You're talking to one of the T2X devs. Show a little respect.
Being a developer for a mod does not automatically entitle one to have your opinion respected. One would actually expect one of the developers of T2X to better understand why exactly it is that so many fans think that Nu Thief is an absolute betrayal of Thief's roots.

FMs that incorporate flying, or are set on the moon or mars or whatever should be considered a betrayal to "Thief's roots"...but we've celebrated them.

I'm afraid you're wasting your breath, Fett. I said that elsewhere already, but I really hope devs really don't read discussions like this, where people claiming to be true fans are so disconnected from the reality and gaming culture, not to mention game design principles/practices (but they sure have a lot to say about). I'm not a Thief fan then.
I want a Thief game, but I'd also love it to be introduced to new people. Like I never got a chance to show it to my family and relatives, who are gamers now. It would be a great opportunity.
I hope they'll stick to their vision and the result will be something open-minded to player style and choice, as it was in case of Dishonored.

Ok, after watching this: (
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XMqdNzCNl5Q) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XMqdNzCNl5Q i must say i am very, very excited about this! Focus and all annoying objective markers/guard status/loot glint can be turned off, ghosting is perfectly doable and the maps are large and have multiple entry points and ways to accomplish the objectives.
This smells like thief to me, i see no reason for hate talk about this game just because it has some features for the mass audience that can be
turned off.:D

You see, that right there is the problem with the AAA gaming industry. Apparently us fans are apparently 'disconnected' with reality because we expect games with more niche appeal. It's actually rather ironic. It's not impossible to make niche games, it's merely impossible to make niche games using the business model they're employing. That's why games like DmC selling 1 million copies are considered failures.
All the development budgets are insanely bloated and money is squandered like it's nobody's business. Let's take a look at the Thief devs. They actually spent development money to make a Thief costume just so they could study how the light falls on it. I mean, holy shit. Do people even care whether the way light falls on your character (which you don't see for 95% of the game) is 100% accurate or not? How much money was wasted just for that trivial little thing? The CoD devs are strapping mo-cap devices to a dog so they 100% realistically simulate dog movement in a singleplayer campaign people are going to play through once, maybe twice, forget about in a few days and never play again.
The sheer amount of money wasted on ridiculously stupid shit in the AAA industry is horrifying. The bloated development budgets is even worse. Star Wars the Old Republic allegedly cost over $200 million to develop. It's a WoW clone a Star Wars skin. 200 million dollars.
It makes one wonder, then, how a publishing house like Paradox Interactive can manage to almost exclusive develop and publish niche games, while a large publishing house like Square Enix with all its multi-million dollar projects that get released each year is on the brink of bankruptcy. Thief could easily have been a niche game, but their development is dependent on the AAA industry's business model that is so inherently broken, that they have no other choice but to develop their games to such a large audience or risk committing financial suicide.
If amazing niche games like the Witcher series (1 being more niche than 2) can manage to move 1 million copies and be considered successful, there is no reason why any other AAA development house can't do the same thing.

Renzatic still going on and on about 'very little evidence'. I love this thread!
Have we seen any indication at all of how big or small the levels are going to be yet?

how quickly the Hammers and Pagans are forgotten...
fett on 12/6/2013 at 16:26
Yeah, but between TDP and TDS, the story of the Pagans and Hammerites (and Mechanists) has been told. Aren't we ready to move on to something else. Like something deep in the original mythology like the Baron?
Zewp - what games can you name that aren't AAA titles and are unaffected by the "current state of the industry." I'm not baiting you, I'm just curious as to your standards. Just so you know mine - I think Dishonored and DX:HR (minus the boss fights) are spectacular.

Fans? Roots? You registered yesterday? WTF do you know about fans, and roots?
How long, and i mean in YEARS, have you actually been playing Thief? And which versions have you played though? And how many HUNDRED FM's have you worked through? And how many have you personally actually created?
Seems to me you're a noob with NO credentials, no history and a big mouth (well, keyboard anyway). There are people who know the Thief Universe inside out, like the one you're trying to flame, who have actually participated in keeping the game alive and providing a world for the rest of us.
By the tone of your whining, i'm guessing you're so young you weren't even born when most of us first picked up a blackjack and swam into Baffords Manor...
You bring nothing. And therefore your 'opinions' and BS posts will be treated as such.
jay pettitt on 12/6/2013 at 16:38
I'm not sure membership of TTLG is an indication of how long someone has played Thief games or validity of opinion.
Besides, I'd really like to read some opinions from people who are new to Thief.
