I don't understand. I watched a gameplay demonstration video of about 15 minutes, thinking they were going to show us Thief, but the game they showed us looked nothing at all like a Thief game. So which game did they show and where's the Thief gameplay footage they were promising?

At around 3 minutes, it shows a KO that's not in third person!
Rejoice! :D
Will watch the whole thing when I get home tonight but I was glad to see that. As long as there exists alternative first person takedown-animations to all the 3rd person ones I'm sure some enterprising coder will be able to flip a "3rdpersontakedowns" switch to "false" somewhere in the code so we can play it purely in first person. (provided there isn't already a toggle for it in the options by default)

I've seen many are happy that the rope arrows are back, ok they are, but they are useless! They can only be shot in specific pre-determined places, you can't go anywhere you like.
Not sure how the fog will work, how will I know where I can hide or not, there's no clear definition of what is shadow or not therefore I can't plan a strategy while I play.
I also hate the focus mode, combat V.A.T.S., experience points and the bald guy.
The only somewhat good thing I've seen in the gameplay vid is that the light gem is still present, although I can't understand why there is the annoying black shroud around the screen if we have the light gem?

I really, really liked that! Finally some great animations... It looked much better than TDS knockouts. :thumb:

I think you guys are nuts.
"There's also a lot of the UI you can enable/disable depending on how much help [do you] want." (in reference to hand-holding)
"We worked very, very hard to make sure that we are going to talk to the fan, it's going to be challenging, but if you want to just enjoy the ride and not fight with the AI, we give some options to turn off if you don't want."
"The surfaces actually make a huge difference...the player has to adapt and say - what are the surfaces I'm going to be treading on?" (in reference to sound no longer being part of the stealth calculation)
"There are geographical paths that are multiple options, but what we also have is - how do you deal with scenarios, just in this space there are a ton of ways you could deal with the situation." (in reference to linearity)
"The XP is for measuring how good the player is." (in reference to xp = $. Sounds like it's simply something to enhance your stats screen post-mission)
"Focus and health do not auto-regenerate, btw." (in reference to auto-renewable resources. Arrows also break when used)
"You might want to pick your battles." (in reference to forced combat. Meaning - fighting is not a good option)
"Primarily, this is a first person game...3rd person here and there, very isolated compared to the main game."
"If you're a fan of the old games, we worked very hard to make you feel like you [are] back with an old friend. We respect the foundation. The origins you expect to see are there."
"We know we have a fan base that knows exactly what they are expecting - for some people it must be difficult because the perfect thief has [must be] challenge[d]. You kill nobody, nobody will see you, you are a perfect ghost. For other people the story is the most important, so you don't want to fight with the mechanic."
"There are no cameras...but there are things like dogs and birds. If you are too noisy, it will cause you trouble."
"The game is to steal, not to kill."
Pickpocketing, 1st person blackjacks, 1st person rope arrows (rope arrows!), escalating alert levels for AI, dynamic environment, vertical stealth solutions, no pictorial clue of the target object to be stolen, vague/optional maps, backstories, exploratory elements, noise distractions, readables for entertainment, secrets, and objective help, central hub with district sidequests (which we all clamored for around the time of T3)....
I think you guys are nuts. :)

Because clearly if they say something, then it is 100% true. They also said they think they're big fans of the original Thief games, but they then went and ripped out everything that made the Thief games good, adding lots of dumbed down features along the way so the babbies can also be into stelf and stuff.
This game is an abomination. Eidos Montreal should be ashamed.
fett on 12/6/2013 at 14:24
Dude, - there are like 2 things in that list that they've "said." The rest is clearly visible in the demos. Yes, there is stuff for the babies, but how many times to they say "the UI elements can be turned off,"? You're saying they're just out and out lying about that, when every other game in the last few years, stealth or not, has that exact feature?

I am not so sure. One of Polish journalists who saw the whole demonstration (infiltrating the Northcrest Manor, stealing The Lion's Heart, and escaping from the burning mansion with the use of Quick Time Events) wrote that XP points will be spend on buying combat or stealth skills.
I hope it's not true.
