Oh, in relation to Deus Ex 3? I haven't been keeping up with all that... Is it really that bad?

Well it's kinda improved during the last few months, but back in the day the first things Eidos-Montreal said in relation to DX3 was that the original Deus Ex was way too slow, there would be no shadow stealth, there would be third person takedowns and regenerating health, and the game would look like a visual novel. (A Deus Ex Game. A visual novel. Alright). Oh, and no skills, though I can somehow live without them. Recently they demonstrated a trailer featuring a comic-looking female with an awkward haircut, as well as the main protagonist flying a rocket (a shuttle actually, but it doesn't make things any better). So, it's just a
remarkable way of marketing and promoting a new Deus Ex game.
Judging by the fact that the two things we know about the new Thief is that a) it's called Thi4f according to the logo, and b) it lasts 10 hours, I'm
anxiously waiting for the new information about the game. That might easily become the worst game marketing campaign in history, and it definitely worths looking at just for a huge amount of fun.
Note: Compare it to BioShock: Infinite that looks like a day-one-purchase game from the first day.

I'm not allowed to use a qualifier in my sentence in this regard?
Of course, where did you get the idea you weren't?

I've heard four not-so-subtly different translations of the Deutsch to English so far, and that's after Stephane's comment was translated from French or English to Deutsch, so I'm not 100% sure what Stephane actually said and meant, especially when they were specific when they spoke for DX:HR.
I was talking about the German quote (the phrase "rund zehn Stunde Spielspaß" is pretty clear) not the translations, although there's no indication he wasn't talking German in the first place, or that such a simple detail would be carelessly uttered or translated if he was talking French or English.
But
if you think there was an error or something was lost in translation then obviously it's equally pointless to assume he meant to say how long it'd take an experienced player doing a quick replay or speedrun, as it is to assume he was talking about an average newcomer.
Although personally I would think it a little bit odd if, when asked about a game's length, a developer would answer how long it'd take for an experienced player doing a no-frills speedrun, because that would say exactly nothing about the game.
I'm trying not to read into it. So speculating either way is pointless (but fun!). However given EM's track record so far it won't hurt to be on guard (of course, with DX3 people were very willing to constructively argue which mistakes should not be made, from the very start, and that accomplished exactly zilch).

Yes everything we know is negative.

Oh Jesus, how could I forget it.

Yup. The BioShock games have excellent marketing. BioShock Infinite really sells the idea, but with Deus Ex 3...all I have is a big MEH when I see the trailers. They just look patched together 'oooh ahhh' moments stolen from every cool action movie of the last decade. It doesn't feel genuine...whereas, despite being more of a straight up shooter...BioShock does feel genuine.
I'm happy to hear Stephen Russell at work in that video. I still wish Irrational had been able to take over Thief development after LGS folded.

Aren't they only working on
two games?
...and only one of those is anywhere near a release.

Maybe games really are this short, and I just never noticed.
Call of Duty games are about as linear as it gets. Thief is not.

Yeah, exactly. DXHR might actually turn up to be a very good game at the end of the day, but the way Eidos is marketing it... it's just hularious. Taking the most controvercial aspects of a game and promote them as the key feeatures is definitely something a wise person would never do.
