Been ages since I've crept around in here, what do I see? :erg: Crawls back over to TDM side. Thats my Thief 4.

That's about what I expected. Most big games these days are about 13hrs. Games are generally easier now to ensure more people find enjoyment instead of getting frustrated.

At least someone can hope that the "rest" 20 hours of building story-levels where invested developing a SDK that hopefully will help FM makers to fix the "10 hour issue" in the future and ensure that the average fm player will get pleasantly frustrated with those fms .
In a few words if the editor is good fans will make tons of 10 hour game play fm's in the future.

If this is about "DLC milking", I don't think them releasing an editor is very likely.

Between Thief 2 and The Dark Mod, do we really need another game to make FMs for anyway? I don't see FMs being churned out for TDS. The campaign to get the editor released are a bit embarrassing at this point. There have been more FMs for TDM in the last year than there has for TDS in the last five.

That is the most sufficient proof for the benefit of public relations.

I think my first play through of Deadly Shadows took me about 22 hours. I remember my housemate at the time (who was a far bigger gamer than me) commenting that that was pretty short for a game!
I dunno, I also love the Silent Hill games, and they tend to be around ten hours. But they tend to be more interactive stories which you walk through. Thief has a linear story, but is otherwise an open playground to get lost in.
Ten absolutely brilliant hours would still be a disappointment, I think. And I think there would be either: a) a lack of variety in terms of levels/locations, or else b) lots of short areas/levels which never feel particularly satisfying.
Personally I hope it's a case of mis-reporting. I can't imagine that Eidos Montreal sat down and decided that Thief 4 would only be 10 hours long. In their own words it's a "triple A" title.

I don't think AAA titles automatically offer more longevity, especially as single player games. Something like Dragon Age or Fallout 3 may offer dozens of hours of gameplay, but your average shooter or action adventure doesn't.
Having said that, though, with a game like Thief that allows for a wide range of playing styles, I don't see how any estimate that just gives one number without any context means anything whatsoever.
