back on topic :)
i just played a few TDM fms and have something to share everybody already knows or suspected:
tears of st. lucia:
I decided playing it "newschool", ignoring all secrets and hints, going straight for the main entrance and objectives as quick as I can, knocking out guards left and right but avoiding combat: well, it took me 45min, got 500 loot, knocked out 3 guards+bishop, had to flee one time and it was .... ok.
then I played it "garrettschool", taking my time, mantling every ledge, studying patrol routes, reading everything, sneaking without knocking out and using almost no tools at all. I ended up with 1680 loot, no detection, no knockout, 1 moss arrow and 2 water arrows used and a playtime of 70min. which is 77% more.
so 10hours or 17,7
still a little short for my Thief tastes.
I would not give it much thought and play more TDM in the mean time.

10 hours isn't bad. I've almost finished Thief Gold(second last mission) and I've clocked approximately 10-11 hours so far. I went at my normal slow pace except in Escape! where I ran like hell because it's impossible to sneak that mission and I despise it very much*grumble grumble*

No man, that wasn't slow pace, at least you knew well what and how to do and where to go. Slow paced playthrough of TG or T2 takes about 30-50 hrs (with all the secrets/loot and sightseeing).

Just ignore the marketing ploy. It has been said before but you decide your own playtime. Think i played through Thief 2 in about 30 hours, but i did not explore excessively.

A thread like this is way premature. I'd be surprised if they even have the whole game design mapped out, let alone the story. It's probably going to be at least two more years before we see this game, I'm sure much of the speculation will continue to change along the way.
And to some of you claiming this silly "10 hour" play through time the first time you played the original games, get real. Not sure who you are trying to impress

Anyone claimed about
first time? Everyone I see here told about knowing all levels by heart. And so do level designers and playtesters of course.
Here's like I see this 10hr playtime: a playtester walks in god-mode (or without AI at all) through the rough terrain of missions, stopping sometimes to "kill" or "knock out" a guard, which isn't there yet, but will be there later, all doors are unlocked by cheats, all loot locations are already known of, etc., etc.

Isn't it likely that if he did say 10 hours that it was just a spontaneous answer - or he was just talking about what they had so far, like the first three missions or so. Also, isn't it kind of bizarre that we spend so much time (3 years of our lives) analyzing about a game that might, in the end, satisfy us for only 10 hours. We're like insatiable monsters.
The anxiety to payoff ratio is really messed up. It's existentialism at its finest: we stress for 3 years to be gratified for 10 hours.

The Thief 2 demo(which was my first encounter with the Thief games) took me 6 hours to complete. And that was one mission. A slightly modified verison of "Life of the Party" it was. 6 hours, and that's not guesswork! I remember it clearly. From 5pm to 11pm I played it, forgot to eat dinner that evening because I was so lost, enthralled by this magical new world. Fried up some fishsticks at 11.
So... 10 hours doesn't sound too good to me. Hoping this is a missprint.
