Hello there, ive just got a new 480gtx and 3Dvision. now it says thief2 works well but when i try it, it will not work. Anyone else got a 3D setup and got this game working on it.
Im using 257.21 drivers on windows 7 64bit.

Do you have any other games running? And, will it work with 64 bit? A lot of apps will not work with 64, and are difficult to run in W7.

Im using 64bit drivers for this setup and i got loads of other games that work very well. Also not able to run Dues Ex in direct 3d in 32bit color mode either game just locks up when i goto start it, works ok in open GL.

I think the only way you could challenge dark engine more with that setup is runnig TDP

are you using ddfix? widesceenpatcher?
what settings are you using?
I have thief running on a GF8800GTS 512 on windows 7 x64 with the same drivers and everything works perfectly... have to switch off a few things in compatibility tab though, mainly dpi and desktop compositing options I think.... but I'm not home right now so I cant check...
did you try tafferpatcher for installation?

Forget about 3D vision compatibility list, it has nothing in common with reality. Many games listed there won't run with nVidia drivers made for Vista/64 at all. They just took the old list that is several years old and was actual for wired glasses with old drivers.
I wanted 3D vision for almost sole purpose of playing Thief, but it seems it's a no-go - only rather recent games are stereo playable since 3d vision requires GF 8+ cards and GF 8+ card drivers for Vista/7 have broken support of DirectX 8 and earlier. Some games glitch (no dithering support results in serious banding issues in Unreal games like Deus Ex) and some don't work at all because some functions don't work anymore (Echelon, Gothic 1 & 2, ...). I dunno about Dark Engine, it works thanks to ddfix according to many people, but currently running any DE game results in crash for me even with ddfix (9800GT, latest WHQL drivers for Win7). I won't be surprised if GF 400 won't run Dark Engine at all, although i hope it would...
Switching to AMD is a possibility, but their new cards have similar or worse problems (for example, you can kiss goodbye to many OpenGL games since AMD basically ditched OpenGL support). I guess we are near the point when modern systems won't run such old games anymore (actually, without ddfix this point was reached long ago).:erg:

People used to be able to play Thief with 3D goggles. :erg:
Not enough people got into it, though, otherwise we'd have answers in the FAQ for ya.

well ive installed the tafferpatch thing ok, and im able to run thief 2 on my GF480 ok with no probs so at least the game still runs. It also works on my 5870ATI card ok.
But i agree seem the 3D side of things is a no go :(, oh well was hoping someone had found so cool work around for it :). Is the ddfix part of the tafferpatch or do i need to install this over the top of that ????.

Yes it is. And it's included in the default DX10 compatibility preset so it's likely installed already (check Thief2 folder for ddfix.dll and ddfix.ini to be sure).
