I haven't read through all this thread, but are you all aware of how to reenable the Thief3 Intro Movie so you see it immediately, without having to wait a long time or deal with the company ad videos ?

Check the Tweak Guide: (

Quite easy to locate.

I don't have the game yet (in Australia) and not even sure yet whether my box is up to the insane hardware requirements for T3, but I'm browsing around in anticipation of getting the game anyway.
I've noticed that there's a tweak to increase guard awareness on Expert difficulty, but no mention was made of working around the AI bug (which reverts to Normal difficulty after loads) by tweaking the Normal level guard awareness values to equal the Expert values. Would this work?
Also, I saw a tweak to make items cheaper, but also read complaints that Garrett has way too much money. Why not make a cost schedule that addresses that problem (i.e. tweak prices up instead of down) ?

I am still seeing them bend overbackwards at times, but they continue to fall flat on the floor on their side, instead of just staying in that bent over shape.
From my own experiences, they fall backwards weirdly when the framerate is below 35 or so. When the FPS is upwards 60, they fall extremely well looking (way better than Thief 1-2). The physics engine is probably dependant on system speed to 'render' the physics properly.

Haven't read the latest 15 pages of this thread yet, so sorry if this has already been brought up:
I've seen talk of turning off the ambient music.
Has anyone tried replacing parts of the soundtrack with music from T1/T2?
For the most part I have no complaints about the ambient music, Eric Brosius once again did a great job. But something I missed from T1/T2 was that at very rare times the music would go from ambient to more melodic, especially when something cool was happening ingame. (just going from memory here, but I think the theme from the TDP credits was played when you got into some secret passages, possibly in Assassins or Under Cover).
Anyway, for nostalgia purposes it would be neat to replace some of the tracks with T1/T2 melodic themes. Has anyone messed with the soundtrack files?

I have completely messed up my new Thief3.. (I bought it today) :cheeky:
After a few hours of "messing up" I got rid of those new features I don't like: arrow trails etc.. Then I installed the tweaker,(v1.2) and disabled the blue frobbing glow-thing.
And now I cannot enable it again. :tsktsk:
I really want to do that because now Garrett glows in the dark.
(well, that doesn't matter so much, I usually play from 1st person)
Well, also some other little objects glow strangely now. (at least some arrows)
Also, I have read that after disabling the dynamic frobbing-glow, some objects may become unfrobbable.
So the question is, can I turn it on again, and how could I do that?
(For some reason, Restore default settings-button does not work.)

I think going into the Defaul.ini and making the following changes will remove the glow in the dark Garrett effect.
[T3Settings]
BodyAwarenessMode=0
GarrettFootstep=1
PlayAmbientSound=1
HighlightMinLevel=0 ;was 0.5
HighlightMaxLevel=0 ;was0.76
HighlightAdd=0 ;was 0.02
GhostSpeed=400
CurrentDifficulty=Expert
Lookspring=false
CreepMultiplier=0.33
WalkMultiplier=0.5
MenuInputInitialDelay=0.8
MenuInputRepeatDelay=0.1
Actually, that doesn't work at all. Sorry. If anyone knows how to disable the garrett glow, I would appreciate it.
the_thiefster on 16/6/2004 at 15:42
well ive got a couple of requests for the pros. this coming from a n00b who sucks big time at coding :joke:
1) When garrett is stationary and he turns at a certain obtuse angle (say 120 degrees clockwise), then he runs forward, he doesnt move straight. instead, he has to move himself a bit to the left from where he is facing (or right, if 120 degrees clockwise). its pretty irritating when there arent enemies around, gets kinda distractive
2) now if only there was a sword like in the old thievey days that could block attacks...awesome :thumb:

Use Miyagi's frob patcher (see Thief 3 Tweak Guide or get it at (
http://tnlc.com/eep/thief.html)).
The Tweaker should have an option to restore the frob; if not, email the programmer and ask how to restore it.

What I would really love to see is a tweak to get rid of that consolish jumping arrow pointing down in the briefing to indicate that I can scroll down. It is one of the worst immersionbreakers for me because it absolutely doesn't fit in. If it has to stay there at least it should be static.
It always reminds of Karl Klammer (they guy who is the companion wizard for Microsoft Word and is just as annoying and intrusive).
