i added the t2 ambient-start-sound to S_Hole's title-menu! now it's really a Thief-Menu :thumb:
It would be great, if it's possible to change the other menu, too :cheeky:
Has anyone found the files of those ugly buttons ? :p

That ring can be disabled by setting ACTIVE=NOT in [Lightgem_case] in T3UI.ini
I meant the ring of the compass itself. It's basically an iron ring with four points on it that sits on top of the light gem display. Removing the light gem leaves only the compass, and since the compass is a ring, I can see through it, which is kind of distracting. However, I'd like to have a compass to help me find my way around, so I don't want to remove it.
Basically, what I'm asking is whether it's possible to make the light gem permanently dark, so that even when you're standing in bright light, the gem is colored as if you were completely hidden.

You could change each of the (16, is it?) bitmaps in each .ibt file with DXTool. Bit of a hassle but it'd get the job done. Much easier when an overrider tool is written.

Me too want to remove the main menu logo.

Here's an extremely simple way to disable the startup splash screen with Garrett running across the rooftops. Just go to your Thief 3\Content\T3\PCTextures\DynamicallyLoaded directory, and rename Loading1.dds to something like OriginalLoading1.dds. Now when you start the game, you'll see a totally black screen (no image, no logo, no progress bar, no nothing) while the game loads, and then you'll be taken to the main menu. This also seemed to decrease my startup time slightly. If you ever want to change it back, just restore the original filename (Loading1.dds).
Combine this with S_Hole's retro menu, and get rid of the corporate logo movies (see the Tweak Guide), and it's just like starting up Thief 2 :cheeky:

ROCK.
Now, if we can change the fonts in the briefings and options menu, I will consider myself sufficiently placated. Bonus: I'm learning more than I probably care to know about the innards of a game, and I'm having more fun learning how to tweak it than play it. Who would think?

It varies. They're defined in the .sch files, so you can change them there, but that would be incredibly tedious. Most of them seem to use Papyrus 14 or 21.
I tried to do that myself, and I hunted around the the .INI files. Mostly the Papyrus font is called in the Default and UI ini files. Using a robust text editor program like MultiEdit can make global changes across multiple files.
My preference (and I'd do it if I knew how):
Replace Option menus, most popup window text, HUD text, flavor text (adjusting for a smaller size), objective text, and frob text with Goblinhand, but leave briefings and debriefings with Papyrus.
Or just have Papyrus more legible at a lower res.
Mentalepsy on 1/6/2004 at 16:52
I actually don't like Goblinhand. I find it hard to read, as it's in ALL CAPITAL LETTERS LIKE THIS, WHICH REALLY BUGS ME. Papyrus is fine with me, I just wish I could change the colors in the menu. The dull violet is hard to see against the black background. I've got a nice off-white picked out, and I've found the color controls for briefings and debriefings, but I can't figure out how to change the color of the difficulty and objective windows...
EDIT:
Of course, what I'd really like is a smallcaps font, like the one used in Thief 1 and 2...
trouble_dart on 1/6/2004 at 17:04
Didn't both TDP and TMA have an all-capital font in a lot of the menus? I seem to remember the objective and gear menus being like that. I thought it would add a touch of continuity.
In any case, it's not a style choice more than it is a problem reading when I have to run the game at 640X480, which I suspect is a lot more common than it should be, especially for us poor NVIDIA suckers. I feel like I bought into Betamax.
EDIT: Just read your edit, Mentalepsy. We grok.

The Keep of Metal and Gold (KoMaG) lovingly hosts an excellent font just like the one you folks are looking for, (
