anybody figure out how to disable the two circles with "nothing" written under them, when you're lockpicking, climbing, etc.?
Or when carrying bodies. I prefer the old method, what with the little picture and words "Unconscious Body" and "Corpse." The "Nothing Nothing" does not impress.
Also, does anyone know the way to remove the version number from the loading screens? Besides the golden bar -- which by the way is a background element in a DDS file; see files in CONTENT\T3\PCTextures\DynamicallyLoaded -- that's one of the only elements that remains in the load screens. I haven't been able to track down where it appears in the .ini files, but I'm not teh leet haXX00r like a lot of the other forum posters.
I'd edit those DDS files myself, but I'm not sure what settings are needed when saving, and NVIDIA's tool ain't talkin'.

I finally found a version of DXTool to download. The main download site for it seems to be down, there are several download locations at DeusEx2files.com , although things like filefront, etc, do not agree with my browser, so I had to use this Israeli link to version 1.35 (1.4 is the latest) : (
http://community.msn.co.il/comm_links_page.asp?CommID=2982&seqLinkID=1199) (everything's in Hebrew! (just click the link below the english text DXTool)
Now my problem is, when I run DXTool, I get "cannot determine DX:IW base path; DX:IW is not installed" now I know that, but I was hoping I could at least run the texture editor, etc by itself. Is there any way to get around this, or trick it into thinking Thief3 is DX2 so the freakin' thing will run?

err? just divide the desired value with 255
127/255~0.5

127.5, standard rounding ups it to 128.

Ishtvan: i ran into the same problem, seems DX2 tools don't like working if you don't have DX2 installed. Maybe emailiing the author about it would net some results.

oh yea, i forgot
it's an even number of colors
there's no absolute 50% grey

Wow, thanks Myagi! Once I put it in the right directory, it was great. I really appreciate the ability to decide my own colour too. I changed it to 0.04 0.04 0.08 for a faint blue-grey frob. You rock! :)
(for those wanting to know what the new frob looks like, this is it set to .4 .4 .8

Yeah, the issue of using DXTool to edit Thief 3 has been brought up with the author (see this thread at Ion Storm: (
http://forums.ionstorm.com/index.php?showtopic=210705&st=0%EF%BF%BDentry326988) ) It looks like the author has no plans to do it right away.
Probably the best bet would be for someone to just modify the texture map file (maybe two files, one arrow trails removed, and one with both removed.. don't know anyone who would want to remove loot glint and keep arrow trails :) ).
So anyone have DX2 and DXTools (like Myagi :) ) that can create a new Kernel_GFXAll, we could just replace that file?
I wish there were just a standalone DX2 texture extractor. Argh!
Mr. K. on 31/5/2004 at 03:29
Replacing the whole file wouldn't be too good, it's 8MB large. You need a .EXE that patches up some parts of the file. I'd do it myself, but i can't extract the textures because i don't have DX2 installed (nor in the shelf, for that matter) :p

he should just opensource the damn thing so people with interrest could fix it
it's not like it's got any trade secrets in it
edit: just read the thread
seems he does have plans for it, but not immediately
