Thief 3 Mission 1: Unkillable guard behind the gate before entering the hotel. - by Bigman88

I just started on thief 3 for the first time with the sneaky patch. There is this guard with his back turned behind the gate where the metal surface is at, and where past him is the basement window entrance to the hotel. Tried to blackjack/dagger him through the gate but nothing happens. Tried shooting him with arrows. Also nothing. If you make noise on the metal surface, he does not turn around but walks off around the garden while commenting about the noise. He cannot be harmed at all. Is this a glitch? Its just bugging me, and don't want to continue if there is a chance this will happen again.
