So I have the steam version of Thief 3, I also own the disc version but my installed copy is off steam. so heres what ive done so far.
I installed T3, Installed the latest sneaky upgrade, installed john P's texture pack.
I also have the T3 Gold FM files but... the game starts in windowed mode with the original and the T3 Gold version so im getting the same effect.
when launching Thief 3 the screen flash's black like 4 or 6 times then finaly goes black and the game launch's.
My system spec's:
CPU - AMD FX-8350
GPU - AMD Sapphire 280x
RAM - 16GB Gskill Sniper DDR3 1600
OS - Windows 8.1 latest
I am running a 21:9 Monitor with a resolution of 2560 x 1080. but i doubt this is why i am having this problem cause the Menu never runs at that resolution. if anything the menu stays at 1920 x 1080 if it is even at that res.
I do have AA and AF turned all the way up threw my AMD control panel for thief 3.exe so the game looks amazing but i dont see how this could affect the game starting in fullscreen or not.
Solutions i have tried:
Alt-Ent - the game freezes and the boarders the the window go away but the image itself is frozen. after about 10 seconds the not responding message comes up and i cloase the game.
Turn the windows 8 desktop features off. like shutting off Aero features as much as i can in windows 8.1. did not fix the issue.
Has anyone else ran in to this problem?? is there a solution to getting this to launch in fullscreen?:confused::confused::confused:
Side Note: If there is no solution what i have done is set my windows Aero features all off as much as you can, windows color under display settings is set to jet black. as black as you can get it. color intens all the way up. all three color bars all the way down. The result is a black bar at the top of your screen that says Thief 3 DS in dark grey and a deep red X button in the top right.
Its the most i can simulate full screen and eliminate the effect of the bright boarders and glare it has on such a dark game. it actually looks pretty good. you barely loss anything from the bottem. the compass is fully on screen so its like nothing.
but if there is a solution PLZZZ! lets get it up on here. At the same time Windows 9 is coming and windows 8.1 is pretty pop. Lets stay on top of keeping these games running for years to come. been playing thief since the dark project days.
Thanks Guys! :sly:

This is the most likely cause - Try not forcing anything on in the control panel and set the in-game multisampling option to 1. If that makes it work you can experiment more with what works and what doesn't. Also, make sure none of the game's exe files are set to run in a compatibility mode.

Worked great...
No compatibility mode. works like a charm.
