I had Thief 2 in my computer, worked justed fine, only problem was seeing the movies but that was fixed by running the Indeo codecs every time I would play.
I had to reformat my hard drive for causes unrelated to Thief. After doing so, when I try to install it just dumps me to desktop. I.e. I hit 'install' and the drive revs up for a couple of seconds, then the launcher disappears, and the drive goes silent.
Coincidentally another game has the exact same problem (Warlords Battlecry), I could install it before but now nothing happens when I hit install.
I have Win XP SP3. I already tried running the Indeo codecs, compatibility mode, and running d:\setup.exe -lgntforce with no luck.

are you logged in with an account that has admin permissions..?

I'm the only user of the computer. Should I try logging in as admin? But I never had this problem before.
Edit: OK I found that I can't log in as administrator as it seems I am the one and only account on the computer.
Additional info, I tried to install the game on another computer and it was fine, so it isn't any corruption in the installation disk (I was even considering buying another one to try!)
I also tried waiting a lot as the FAQ suggests. I left it all night after hitting install but nothing.
Specs: Intel Pentium D CPU 2.8 Ghz (dual core), Win XP SP3, ATI X1650 card, 3 GB memory.
Please help, this must have happened to someone before. I can't conceive of life without Thief!

OK I can't install Thief 1 either. I can, as expected, install thief 3 (small consolation). :(

Yaaay! :cheeky: I could install Thief 1, 2, and even Warlords Battlecry after I logged in as administrator. However, the only way I could find in which I was given the choice to log in as admin was booting up in safe mode.
It is strange, because I have had the thief games in 4 or 5 computers including this one, and never had this problem. Maybe when I reinstalled windows something was misconfigured so that it doesn't consider me the administrator?
Bikerdude you hit the nail on the head but unfortunately you were not very explicit, I wasn't sure what you were talking about (for a while I even thought you were talking about the forum ). Thanks anyway.
This troubleshooting item should be added to the list in the FAQ sticky.
