I know that arrogance and disrespect are pretty much guarantees if a mod or admin sees it.
Well, I would like to think that I have been respectful so far and fully intend to continue that effort in the future. :)

Ah-ha! I think that I found the problem.
While trying to get T2X to work, I poked around in its darkinst.cfg file, comparing it to the modified verison of the file that I got earlier. I noticed that all the search paths in the T2X verison that I had (which I presume were copied from the original Thief 2 version of the file I had when I installed T2X) were refering back to the original install location I had for Thief 2. As I mentioned previously, I had since moved it from there to an external hard drive. I did not know that Thief "hard coded" the file paths like that. It would certainly go a long way to explaining some of the issues that I have been having. I should be able to resolve this by uninstalling and reinstalling T2X, or just modifying the file paths.
Let me see if this works...

Yes! Correcting the file paths worked!
Problem solved, and the solution was so damned simple that we all overlooked it.
Thanks to everyone for their help. Now I can enjoy T2X. :)

They are not hard-coded, there's a backup file
install.cfg in Thief-2 folder. Thief-2 doesn't use it, but it is used by T2X installer to create its own
t2x\darkinst.cfg file.
And just in case... T2X installer doesn't work with relative or empty paths in install.cfg.

I think there is a lesson here, at least for me... When helping people troubleshoot, if they tell you something like "i put my thief 2 on an external drive" or "I moved thief 2....." then the first reaction is to say that the file paths are wrong in the darkinst.cfg file.:)
