Ok I was playing thief 2 for awhile no problem. Installed fine, patch, safe texture change, ddfix, multicore fix. Played a few thief 2 fms. I play an fm and I go to the menu and save or check objectives a few times. Then after like 4-5 times of doing that the next time it locks up. It does this consistently but its not always the 6th time. It could be the 8th time. But it will do it if I go to the menu. Ive been using the quicksave feature but its hard to not check the map/objectives.
Any thoughts? I have been through many of the forums/faqs and havent seen this specific issue listed. I am running Window Xp64 (windows 2000 compatibility on).

I've had this problem once. Try compatible to win 95. Do you have the newest patch? There's one that will malfunction, I had this and when I deleted everything and installed without the patch it worked. (on win xp)

yup I have the patch installed. I will try win95 compatibility later today and let you know if that helped.

Ok tried win95 and win 98/me compatibility missions wont load. Only under windows2000 compatibility. Any other ideas? It takes I would say between 8-10 times of me going to the map/objectives/save to get it to lock up.

Hmm, that is weird. Don't think we've ever seen this before. Until somebody can provide a solution, I suggest you just remember to not do it more than 8 times or whatever so that it doesn't lock up on you. You might even try playing the game without ddfix, if you can handle it and it works.

I installed thief gold and it doesnt seem to have the same issue. Also both thief gold and thief 2 will only work with windows 2000 compatibility turned on. win95, win98/me does not work. The game will load then freeze. My thinking is the 1. thief2 is checking for something when it goes to menu and then doesnt find it at some point (not likely) or 2. Some kind of glitch happens after going to the menu which locks up the computer (more likely). What the glitch is I have no idea.
