after searching through these forums, i could not get Thief 2 to run adequately on Vista. the first problem was that cutscenes would not play, fixes I did introduced new problems
1. Installed, videos did not work
2. Tried RegIndeo.bat fix, did nothing
3. Tried to use ddfix at some point, GUI version did not work, used manual instructions but caused distortion on main menu and multicolor/crash in the game, so reset thief2.exe back to original
4. Reinstalled in C: instead of Program Files (x86), crash before reaching main menu
5. Installed darkloader and run game with that, game runs but still no videos
6. Game now runs fine with no videos without using darkloader now (today)
missing something?

7. Use a Dual-Core fix (see FAQ)
8. Right-click on Thief2.exe ==> Properties ==> Compatibility ==> Use Windows XP SP 2 Mode
9. Run as administrator
With 8. and 9. you have Videos.
7. prevent you crashes.
Have a nice day.

Hey, I also have issues. I've followed the faq, installing DDFix, Widescreen patch and all that goodness. Followed the instructions in this vid.

I dont directly crash to desktop, but the game doesn't run either. I just get a black screen instantly on startup that doesn't change. My guess is the intro movie doesn't want to run. I've tried looking at the faq but that's an unnavigatable morass of information. Is there a fix for thief movies on Vista?
Failing that, could I just remove the movie files and have the game skip all movies to get right to the menu? I'll try that now and report the results.

movie idea didn't work. I guess that for some reason the game just blackscreens. Anyways, I patiently await advice, criticism, or direction to a thread with advice. Or criticism if that's your desire.

Bumping this thread.
I got Thief Gold to work on my laptop, no problems at all. Just had to use -lgntforce.
However I still have the same problem with T2. The introductory movie doesn't play and I can't start the game, it just locks up at a blackscreen. When I open taskmanager it tells me the game is still running however.
I've tried every fix on the books. This infuriates me because most FMs are for T2, and I like T2 more than T1 anyways. Here are my system specs courtesy of Everest.

Oh, here's the data from the "close program" window when I end it with taskmanager. On the off-chance anyone here knows what the hell it means.
