Hello all. I have a question.
I was told by Bentraxx on ModDB that if I used Northon's Ultimate Difficulty mod with Tafferpatcher, I'd lose out on its bugfixes. But here ((
https://www.moddb.com/games/thief-ii-the-metal-age/addons/thief-2-ultimate-difficulty-mod)), user LeRutY says it works with Tafferpatcher. How can I get these two to work like he said it does? Do I replace the patchedmis folder's dark.gam or the dark.gam in the main directory?
Thanks for everyone's help so far, you're all great.
EDIT: Also, re: tafferpatcher - how do I know if I got it to work? I installed it into my Steam directory, which I've seen some people say is good and bad. I have 1080p res. so I assume TP did that.

yeah, having all modern resolutions available is a dead giveaway.
depends on your definition of "working" - if you have installed the overhauled missions pack, slapping the old difficulty mod on top means you will be replacing its gamesys, and that can't be a good idea. will this make the game uncompletable? probably not, but things may break, sometimes more, sometimes less. patchedmis has higher priority than root, so that's the one you (don't) want to replace.
steam directory doesn't matter, what does is whether it's in program files, which is a special permissions folder, and generally not liked too much by older games.

Couple questions, then.
1.) What does the overhauled missions pack do?
2.) If I were to not use the overhauled missions pack, then everything would be ok?

1) it takes care of myriads of small issues and problems, like bad texturing, broken setups etc. QOL stuff.
2) yes, I believe so.

Is there full documentation on what the overhauled missions pack does (and in other words, the pack isn't vital?)?
Okay, so how do I redo the Tafferpatcher to exclude the overhauled missions pack? I couldn't find an uninstallation feature for TP, so I assume I'll just have to delete everything and reinstall?
EDIT: Also, so I would use Ultimate Difficulty's dark.gam and put it in the main directory, overwriting the one in there?
EDIT 2: Other questions - what could go wrong if Thief is in the Program Files folder? I've been putting it there for years with no problems.
Last question - in the Tafferpatcher selection screen where you choose what you want, the Complete Resource Fix Pack 1.1e is the one that has the gamesys that I DON'T want to use in lieu of the Ultimate Difficulty mod's gamesys?

I am not certain of the existence of any full documentation of of the changes made, but more details are provided in its (
https://www.ttlg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=141121) thread. Though do note that Tafferpatcher does not use the most recent version of the fixed missions.
As stated above, this pack provides many quality of life fixes to the original missions. While it is very nice, it is not required to play and to enjoy the game.

I believe Tafferpatcher will uninstall any components that are not selected, meaning you can simply run the patcher again and ensure that the "Resource Fix Pack" is not checked.

Yes, you could do this and the game should behave properly. However, I would recommend making a backup of the original Dark.gam prior to using the Ultimate Difficulty gamesys, though it is by no means required.

Program Files is a protected directory that requires special permissions for operations such as creating or sometimes reading files. If Thief or Thief 2 is installed here, the game cannot perform the operations it requires to run. Some data may not be loaded properly and the game will likely fail to save.

Yes, you understand correctly. Not selecting the Resource Fix Pack should leave you with the original gamesys, which you can then replace with that of the Ultimate Difficulty Mod.
