Thief 2 Sound Is Too Quiet

hello guys
generally i have no problems with any thief game, but in thief 2 sound is too guiet for me. in thief gold is much louder and in any other game. i have headphones, eax is on, hardware acceleration is on, 24 sound channels, max volume (in game, in headphones and in the system). it doesnt complicate gameplay so much, i hear everything well but i need to have max volume in game, headphones and system. what could be wrong?

Thx, helpful thread, it works with an old Audigy Player I set on my new PC and ALchemy !
I was disappointed with the onboard sound card.

Just happy to "re-discover" the Thief Series on my new rig + EAX, DDfix, etc... with 10 years old games !! :D
