Hello all
i am having trouble with Thief 2 since i upgraded to windows 7.When the game starts,1 fifth of the options screen is pushed to one side and there is just a black part of the screen,and the cutscenes suffer fom the same problem.I thought that i didn't have DDfix installed properly but i have done 2 missions without any freezeup.Although when i try to apply the patch in DDfix,it says something about needing DDRAW.DLL,where do i get this file?.Also,i noticed that i can't kill the small spiders with my sword,in the mission,Shipping and recieving.Can anybody give me some advice on what to do next.
Colin
PS i did not have these problems with Windows XP & Vista.

This sounds like DDFix has not been installed properly, since when properly installed it replaces all calls to DDraw.dll with DDFix.dll. Can you please have a go at re-installing it? If it still doesn't work I suggest you do a manual install (let us know if you need a hand doing this).

Thanks for the help brian,but i think i will need a hand with the Manual installation of DDfix.Have tried extracting all the DDfix files to my Thief 2 directory,and running DDfix but still get the same message.

Sure, you need to do the following:
1) Uninstall Thief 2, and delete the game directory in Windows.
2) Re-install Thief 2 (do not install into C:\Program Files as Windows does strange virus-protection stuff for programs in here which may stop DDFix or DarkLoader working properly), and install patch 1.37 (if necessary).
3) Try running Thief 2. You should get a lock-up when you start the first mission, but this does populate some lines in a config file we will edit later. Alt-Tab to Windows, and close Thief2.exe.
4) Download the DDFix from (
http://www.filefront.com/14667053/ddfix1.3.11.zip) here, and unzip the files to your Thief2 directory.
5) Download (
http://www.pspad.com/en/download.php) PSPad and install it, which we need to edit the Thief2.exe file.
6) Make a copy of the Thief2.exe file, called Thief2old.exe, for backup purposes.
7) Open PSPad, and go to "File->Open in HEX Editor", and in the pop-up window, go to your Thief 2 directory and choose Thief2.exe. Click on OK.
8) Hit CTRL+F, type "ddraw.dll" (in lower-case letters, without quotes) in the pop-up window, and tick the box that says "As Text", and click on OK. You should go to somewhere in the code that says something like "ddraw.dll....DirectDrawCreate...." and so on.
9) Click on the first "d" of "ddraw.dll", and re-write it with your keyboard to say "ddfix.dll" (again without quotes). Do not change anything else!!! Save the file, and exit PSPad.
10) In your Thief2 directory, open ddfix.ini in Notepad, and make sure the following lines are this:
gWidth=1280
gHeight=1024
MultiCoreFix=1
VideoFix=1
Save ddfix.ini, and exit it.
11) Open up cam.cfg in your Thief2 directory (again, with Notepad), and make sure the following line is correct:
game_screen_size 1280 1024
These numbers need to be EXACTLY the same as those in ddfix.ini from Step 10, this is the resolution you will play the game at. Save cam.cfg, and exit it.
12) Play Thief 2. It should all now work. Hooray! If you want to change screen resolution, you cannot do it in-game, you will need to change the resolution in both ddfix.ini and cam.cfg, and they can only be the standard 4:3 ratio.
Good luck!

Hey guys,
My issue is Thief will not install. Period. I've used the D:\setup -lgntforce way, but all it does is show the little window that pops up when the disc is inserted. Then the installshield window comes up, stays at 0%, and eventually goes away. I've downloaded every patch I can find, but nothing is working because I have not files to edit, or directory. (I created one, just to extract everything to).
I have windows 7. I'm just very frustrated also. Please help.
