oh my god, I just spent a couple of hours going through various fix attempts (I had thief and thief 2 working on vista without a problem, wouldn't work on 7 for the life of me) to no avail. Game would crash before menu every time. (no thief gold, I'm old skool with the original disc from way back when).
well, it turns out my 3 monitor set up was SERIOUSLY pissing off the game, on a whim I disabled 2 of 'em to try booting it, works perfectly fine now.
So I guess it has multi-monitor support issues, which is surprising, but I suppose I should have expected it.
If anybody knows how to make it so I can have all my monitors up and running while playing the game, please let me know
edit: dunno if it helps diagnose the problem, but when I try to re-enable the other monitors while the game is up and running, it automatically sets their resolution super low, with no way to change it
Did you actually THINK that this game has multi-monitor support?? This is Thief 2...NOT crysis!
It was MADE for Windows 98......as far as I know, they did not even have multi-monitor support back then....it had not even been thought of with hardware manufacturers as far as I know!
OF COURSE it will not work in multi-monitors....it was not even an option that had been invented yet!
If you are wanting multi-monitor support, then you had better pick a more modern game.

Actually, I think bikerdude has T2 running on two monitors. Or was that Digi's cathedral?

Making Thief game series running on Windows Vista & 7
I've tried to run this game normaly in Windows Vista and 7, but didn't work. So, I've read some info on some forums, where people
tried to run this games and eventually succeeded, but it didn't worked for everyone. So, I did this kind of procedure, put all these
software together, so that everyone can run Thief games in new Windows OS. Big thanks to all those who made texture packs,
sound packs, ddfix and else. As for the cracked .exe file, I've done it so the game doesn't need the media, as I don't want to
scratch my original Thief media (yes, I have the original versions of the game) Anyway, even if Thief is an old game, it still kicks
ass and it's my favorite game(s) of all time(s)! Buy the original discs, and be the real taffer!
P.S. Update your Thief game to the latest version (install the latest patch) to play the game. I have the original
"Thief games collection" (four discs) which are updated to the latest version. I hope my pack will help you to play
this extraordinary game(s)! I've finished all three games several times and still can't get enough of taffin' around xD

What you are TRYING to say with bad english is that I don't know very MUCH.... not FAR! And what I have established is that you are acting like an idiot!Try learning the english language sometime, it would do your brain a lot of good.
I SAID that the game WAS NOT DESIGNED for two monitors! And it was not! Back then they did not have the kind of tech we have today. I ought to know. I remember installing windows 3.1 on floppy disks and used a commodore 64 before that. When windows 95 came out I helped install it on a friends computer going through a ton of 3.5 inch disks! And I can tell you with assurance that even computer magazines back then did not have dual monitors for games.
Get your facts straight!
Again using TWO monitors in the 90s when thief 2 was made was not the norm. Stop acting like an ass and accept that fact!

Hi Belmordok
Have downloaded your file but cant get it to extract. Do I need a different method or tool to extract it.
(I am desperately hoping this will work for me, as I have not been able to play thief in any form but dark mod for a year now).
:erm:

Um, surely you'd be better off just following the known-to-work steps for getting Thief 2 to run in Windows 7?
Thief 2 should run perfectly fine in Windows 7.
Avoid installing it to the Program Files folder.
If you have a modern graphics card, you'll need to install (
http://www.ttlg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=121449) DDFix. The pre-patched .exe is recommended, as it includes the dual-core fix and other patches.
To get the cutscenes to work, you'll have to register the Indeo codec via the following steps (you do
NOT need to and should not install the codec first if you are using Windows 7 - it comes with the OS, but is disabled by default):
* Right-click on the command prompt entry in the Start Menu and choose "Run as Adminsitrator"
* Type the following line and then hit (return) :
Code:
regsvr32 "%windir%\sysWOW64\ir50_32.dll
You will need to run the game as Administrator in order to for the cutscenes to play on a 64-bit version of Windows 7. The game should still work fine without administrator mode, but the cutscenes won't play.
