Well, seeing that everybody thinks this can't be done, I think I should inform you guys of the fact that it IS possible to run Thief2 on win2k, on a GeForce 3, with SB Live Value, and with EAX on.
At first it totally crapped out, but then I took some time to troubleshoot it and that's what I found out:
* In the GeForce 3 tab in the display advanced properties, set Intellisample to "Application" (you might want to fiddle around with it)
* both FSAA and anisotropic filtering work like a dream (though no real visual impact of aniso even with it set to 8x)
* as of today, there are three driver packages for w2k available on sounblaster.com - install all three, from oldest to newest
* also have direct x 9 (dunno if that helps, I had it already installed when I took on debugging the t2+w2k combo)
* if nothing works, install Service Pack 3. Make a link to the thief2 executable, and (in the "compatibility" tab) set the compatibility to Windows NT 4 SP5 (that's what worked for me in the meantime before i finished debugging); both Windows 95 and 98 made thief2 lock up when the map loaded (at least windows stayed alive)
* my drivers are Detonators 43.45; it also worked with the one before (40.39? something like that)
I fixed two things:
First, Thief 2 would run the map for a split second and then hang up. The sound that was playing for the split second would repeat in an endless loop. The Intellisample slider fixed that.
The other thing that got fixed was EAX rebooting my PC. I just installed the newest drivers :joke: (I've always wanted to use this smiley here :D :joke: :joke: :joke: )
In any case, have fun with the EAX. I'm sure I will
/me kicks windows 98 good-bye in da nutz
[edit]Btw, expect Thief3 to be somewhat late to what was planned[/edit] (I have some info you don't :cheeky: :P )

what? i didn't know running Thief 2 on Windows 2000 was even an issue.
I've never had any problems, nor have i ever needed to troubleshoot it.
Why do people have doubts?
My system specs:
Athlon 900
Asus A7V333
voodoo 3 3000 (shut up, i know)
SBLive
Win2K

I dunno. I searched the forums (when t2 wouldn't even run right) and it was all "yadda yadda no eax yadda yadda"....
Oh well :)

I suspect it was just to keep his topic near the top of the forum and he has no "info"
Running Thief on Windows 2000 has very few issues for the vast majority of people. Remeber you only see people who have a problem, people do not generally install a game and then post on a forum "YAY MY GAME WORKS :D:D:D:D" because they expect it to, and 95% of the time it does.
