Just installed Thief 2 and tafferpatcher and when I launch Thief 2 from the desktop icon on Windows 8.1 I get a pop up dialog that says "You have no write access to the game directory. Thief 2 will not function properly." I've set the program icon to run as administrator and in file manager I right clicked on the Thief 2 folder and set Security to full access for all. Also when I look at the General tab of the Thief 2 folder it has Attributes - Read Only selected, so I unselect that and File manager appears to turn off read only for the folder and its contents, but if I right click on the folder again, read only is selected again and the program still pops up the error message.
Any help appreciated.

Please, could you explain once again what are the right steps to enable the right start from thief2 in that case of "no access"? Thank you!!

Move your Thief 2 folder from inside of Program Files to somewhere else, for example C:/Games or something like that. Program Files is an OS protected folder and you'll have problems trying to run Thief and some other games out of it.
