Hi all, this is my first post here.
I've been playing T2, T2X, and fan missions through DarkLoader on my computer for a while now. A few days ago, I tried to play a new FM I downloaded and got a crash message upon launch. Now, I am unable to play any FMs or T2. However, T2X seems to load and work fine.
I am running Windows XP. I don't think I've done anything to the computer recently that would cause a problem, except possibly a windows update. T2 was working fine about a week ago.
Any ideas or experiences with similar problems? Thanks.

...got a crash message upon launch.
And what message would that be?

The standard Windows "Thief 2:The Metal Age has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience."
I'm thinking that the FM I installed might have modded one of the files that I needed to edit to get T2 to run in the first place, but I can't remember what I did back then to get it to work.

That kind of behavior is typical for CFG edits gone terribly, terribly wrong. If the game can't find a file it's looking for, as defined by the paths in DarkInst.cfg, it will terminate abruptly. Make sure the paths are still correct. If files have moved, update their paths appropriately.
This kind of thing shouldn't happen, but the Dark Engine is not as fault tolerant as it could be.

Yes, the directories were missing from my darkinst.cfg. I fixed them, but it doesn't seem to be enough. I'm going to google for similar problems with solutions and compare my Thief 2 to my T2X folder because for some reason T2X still launches normally.
Thanks!

Hm. It almost sounds like what happens when a user forgets to let DarkLoader handle the files first when going between an official Thief title to an FM or back.

Update: reinstalled Thief 2 and it's working fine now. I would have tried that earlier, but I was afraid I'd smash something in frustration if reinstalling it didn't solve the problem. Oh well.
Thanks anyway.
