I thought it was time to start a dedicated thread for multiplayer, in NewDark. I tried to look for one and the only significant mentions of multiplayer I see are in the very old thread for Tos' version of multiplayer, and in a thread about NewDark. There are a bunch of random mentions of multiplayer in various places but I didn't see a dedicated thread for the NewDark version of multiplayer.
Anyone who's messed with the multiplayer, can you advise your experience? Did you encounter the same issue as me?
I just tested it on a laptop and a PC and I had the following issues:
1.) Only host could interact with guards. Client player could literally stand in front of a guard in complete brightness and not be seen.
2.) We could not see each other. I miss the options from Tos' version. You could select a character model and there was even a text chat. Those options are missing from this version of mp.
3.) The tag showing the player name would not move around between computers.
4.) I died as the host intentionally. When I did, it said I could spectate. I clicked the mouse button to watch the client, but it didn't matter if I moved on my laptop, the host spectating saw no movement. It was as if I was frozen at the start of the mission where Basso talks to Garrett and then goes into that little room behind you.

The first of all - make sure that you put multiplayer versions of gen.osm & convict.osm into games dirs.
Sometimes, after game starts, client needs up to 1-2 minutes to "synchronize" with server. At this time client can't interact with some objects (and guards). After sync complete - everything works pretty good.
But if mission actively use custom scripts - all quest items mast be collected by player at the server side. And teleportation is't works too :-( E.g. in "The Violent End Of Duncan Malveine" client isn't teleport from start location.
Tested via Hamachi.

It might be useful if somebody made a video of multiplayer in New Dark, walking through some of the major issues and probably giving a little commentary so we know what we're looking at. Then interested people could watch the video and get up to speed with what does and doesn't work better than any detailed explanation.

Make sure you and your multiplayer partner run Thief 2 multiplayer mode from a different folder that renamed for only multiplayer mode instead of run from normal Thief 2 files. Make sure you and your multiplayer partner have same Thief 2 files. You can install certain mods like ESRGAN Texture Pack, Enhancement Pack, Sound Effects Enhancement Pack. I have not tested other mods. Just in case, avoid installing other mods.

Heya. I know this is late but I hope it helps.. (plus I think you helped me with T2 multiplayer like 10 years ago so it's only fair xD)
...only thing I've noticed so far is installing the additional mods / script modules in T2Fix can cause compatibility issues. I can't tell the specifics just yet but once I installed all T2Fix mods on both machines it worked. When I skipped some mods on one I got the player's not rendering and positions not updating as you described.
Tested with a Steam and GoG version playing together using wireguard through my own app.
