Hello taffers and tafferettes,
I recently attempted to play Thief 2 Multiplayer with a friend whose system was set up with a static IP address for port forwarding. The problem is that when he hosts a game the connection times out; the number of players and the ping are just question marks.
My question is if there is a Thief 2 port out there? The one that comes up is "5198" for the Multiplayer server. I gave this number to my friend for portforwarding, but we are not sure if this is the proper port to use for port forwarding.
The thing is that I have seen other games up that I could join, so this doesn't completely seem like a lost case. The ping and amount of players was visible; they just happen to be closed most of the time.
I am not a computer expert, but the game works fine on my modern computer after performing enough tweaks. Can someone give us a step by step guide to get multiplayer working, particularly in relation with port forwarding (we followed the instructions from portforwarding.com).

No tafferesque wisdom out there? I shall gas mine myself before I can gas mine someone in multiplayer! No help?

I guess it's not what you wanted to hear (or read, whatever :D) but i suggest to use Hamachi in this situation.
I actually have the same problem and so far i readed in other forums, this problem isn't that rare :wot: (yes i have forwarded my ports)
For bad i didn't found anything to solve this problem since im no big expert.
That's all i can say for now :erg: Sorry.

If port forwarding is set up properly, perhaps a firewall is blocking it? Try unblocking the port in any firewalls you have.

It's worth a try.. well.. if you haven't tried before.
I of course have done that before already :cheeky: and it didn't solved the problem. (always if i try to play any games online, im checking the ports and my firewall.)
So far.. i can successfully host and of course join on all the games i have except on Thief2, for Thief i have to use Hamachi =\
(well not if i join an already existing server on global. But these are often closed - playing so.. *cough* nevermind xD)
